Well, I swim 50 meters at a time and take a 10-15 second break. I try to keep my times consistant versus going hard and having to recover longer - my goal is to get to where I can go 100 meters before a break and so-on up until I can do 250 meters at a time with no breaks.
It takes me about 30 seconds to do 25 meters (7 breaths).
