I'm not an expert so hopefully one will chime in later I don't know that it would significantly increase your muscle mass or strength unless you are just beginning the weight training game, and even then not by much. It would seem to me however, that your "endurance" strength (ability of your muscles to work for longer periods without becoming as fatigued) would be increased by using these kind of weights. It could also have a cardio benefit depending on how far you walk between resting periods (between classes, to housing, that kind of thing).
