From what I'm reading it does seem to be the ITB. When I broke my femur I had pretty much the same symptoms in that area. I know if you go to a pharm they sell a band that you can wrap around that area and for me at least it seemed to help until I strengthened it back up. Try to use the stretching exercises from the below website. They also seem to help.
