I start off fast until I get a good burn going then go at it at a medium pace for about an hour. You'll feel that tomorrow.

The benefits of jump rope according to my knowlege is basically to increase your cardiovascular level of fitness and it also does burn fat if you do it on empty stomach before breakfast, can guarentee that from experience. It also helps coordination if anything, I remember reading that jump rope burns the same amount of calories as jogging.
Also, work at your own pace. If you are a begginer, maybe 10 mins is sufficient, then work it up.

here, here!
hey missy, maybe you should post that routine that you posted before for the jump rope circuit you posted a while ago. . .
hang on that's just confusing. . .
if you remember a while ago in another thread about jumpropes you posted some circuit training advice (which kicks ass ). so maybe you should stick a link to that here or maybe re-post it?
just a thought since it was so worthwhile doing it! i still use a jumprope for cardio by the way i use it for 20 min every 2nd day. great workout

Jump rope
there's the thread in there...have a read!
Well said timzombie, as I said I love my skipping and circuit training stuff, I swear by it. I want to look into some new circuit training programs too, I've found this link, here it is for anyone who's interested:

Another great method of jumping rope, is running around the block while
skipping, also try doubles and triples if you start to get good at stationary skipping and the infamous rocky 3 criss crosses

Doubles, triples and criss-crosses help out bigtime with coordination.
Doubles and triples themselves increase the cardiovascular aspect, not to mention they will help with your b-ball speed and jumping--youve gotta jump a bit higher to get the rope to pass twice or 3x, you also need to pick up your wrist speed while twirling the rope. i can pull off a good run of doubles but when i hit the triples(and it is quite difficult) i usually recover with several singles before the next triple.

I am bumping this because I have been getting bored with my cardio routines, I just purchased a speed rope for my training studio and I want to start getting into some of those boxing jump rope routines.
That link that Goose posted last year is awesome, but that stuff is way too advanced for me right now. I don't even know most of the jargon as far as the different moves go. I can barely skip in place for 10 seconds now, and I know practice will make perfect... But any tips from people that skip regularly, on how to speed up my progress/aptitude for doing this...?

That video is way beyond me right now to.
raijin all I do is skip until I can't skip no more. Catch your breath, then do it again. That's how I learned to run on the spot in about 2 weeks. My only problem was the days after my shins were killing me. I'm not amazing at it, but I can do it for about 2 - 3 mins without screwing up.
That vid reinspired me to skip some more.
