Default Getting ready for Police Training

Hey there I am not sure if I am posting in the right spot or not. If its wrong feel free to move it to the right spot but here is my question.

I am currently getting ready to go to the Police Academy in 1 month to become a cop. I am 21 years old and I started lifted 1 month ago. When I started lifting I was 215 and now I am about 235 240. I am 5'8 I am not really fat I have a gut now but everywhere else I am pretty much solid.

I was into lifting hardcore back in high school I was 190 at the same height with 7% body fat. If possible I would like to get back to that. I've never been this heavy before and I never needed to cut weight so I am not sure how I should.

I am currently taking Muscle Milk 3 times a day. I am taking activite, Trac and Secretogue One from MHP. Should I be taking this?

I need to get to an 8 minute mile and I am currently at a 11 minute mile. I just am really worried for I want to be a police officer and I am not sure if I am going to be where I need to be in a month. I just wanted to know if anyone had any info on my stack and any suggestions on how to get bigger and lose weight and burn fat.

Sorry for the essay just really nervous and like I said sorry if this is in the wrong section. Any help will be appreciated thanks for your time.

i was a full time deputy sheriff for 13 years,so i can imagine your anxiety.just a couple of questions:the 8 minute mile,is it a pre-lim test to see if they will accept you into the academy? or are you already in? 240!!that's real big for 5 8.they are going to bomb you with academics so forget about lifting while in the academy.if i were you,i'd make my body as efficient as possible, drop the excess weight.you'll be doing lots of push ups,sit ups and running.how long is your academy? good luck!!

I am already pass all of that. 8 minute mile is what they have you run every day when you are in the weeks of pt. As for the push ups I am good with that I am not really fat like I said I have a gut but even then u see lines for the 4 of the 6 pack. I am just very broad and I am pretty solid except in the gut lol.

I just don't know if I am taking the right things right now. Also if I am going about this the right way to just lose the weight overall. I would like to get back to a solid 190 - 200 but I am not sure what I should be doing to get there.

Academy is 20 weeks I think.

To Mr. Stone: Bless you child!!! I checked out that link (crossfit) and it has given me new ideas and new inspiration. I just got back from the gym and FINALLY I feel like my upper body actually got a good workout. I'm so excited about my shoulders right now- I feel like I've been beating my head against a brick wall for the last 3 months when it comes to my arms, esp. shoulders, but after today's workout incorporating some of the crossfit moves (very baby-ized, of course) with my normal circuit and cardio, I feel very powerful and quite sore

just wanted to say thanks- I feel like I've discovered buried treasure, ha ha!

I found that you can't beet the BEEP TEST for improving your cardiovascular fitness. Got me into the Fire Service.

It's great for your motivation because it allows you to monitor your improvements.

I recently applied to be a firefighter with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service in the UK. Part of the physical was the Beep Test (sometimes referred to as the Shuttle Run, the Multi Stage Fitness Test or the Bleep Test). I'd never done the beep test before and was very worried that I wouldn't make the required Level 9.6.

So I downloaded a copy of the beep test on mp3, and did my own test down a quiet lane near my house. I marked out 20m on the road and played the beep test mp3 on my iPod.

First time, I made it to level 7.5 before I was totally out of puff and had to stop. It made me realise that I had to seriously start training hard. There was no way I was going to get into the fire brigade with this level of fitness. It was either get fitter, or apply for the police!

Next week, after a few hard sessions on the treadmill, I got to level 8.0.

Eventually, after about a month of pushing myself, I was regularly achieving the level required for the fire service, which meant I passed the physical with flying colours.

It's a really good way of measuring your cardiovascular fitness, and the feedback it gives you makes you want to achieve better and better results. I recommend it to anyone trying to get fit for any reason.

This is where I downloaded it from:

HERE

It's a good site, with helpful hints and tips, and guidance on how to interpret your results and improve your performance.

Cheers!
Ted

Well, what ted says may be right but you should only use the beep test as a form of motivation. it is not really a tool that will help your fitness rather it is an indicator as to what level of fitness you are at .
A great way to improve your stamina for long distance running is fartleckler training. Go for a twenty minute jog. After your in intial 5 mins try this. Jog for 4 mins and run at 50% of your max for 1 min (stride) do this three times and rest. Do not do it on a treadmill . It is much better on grass or the road. After each session think about increasing the time of the intensity of your run. E.G. after 5 sessions your run might be 25 minutes long and you jog for 3 minutes and go 60% for one minute.
It really is an excellent way to improve fitness. Give it a go and see how you get on

I agree. Everyone recommended fartlek training to me when I was training for the fire service, and it helped me improve from 7.5 to 9.6 on the beep test. Seems like a much more effective way of training than continuous running.

Something to consider is with Police/Military, the job entails you carrying alot of equipment on your person at all times. We are talking 25-30 pounds for a cop and maybe 40-50 for a soldier without a pack.

In realistic terms, you have to figure out what you can and can't do with that weight on you. It's easy to jump a wall with nothing on. Tack on 25 pounds of gear hung around your waist and try it. At some level, there's whats going to get you through your training, and theres whats going to get you through the day on the job without getting yourself hurt.

Food for thought
