Default A Row Machine For Cardio?

My job has me on my feet all the time, so I'm reluctant to hit the treadmill very hard if I have to be in anytime soon. Do you think a row machine is a viable alternative?

Rowing is an excellent workout because it works your entire body. Before I moved to my current home I belonged to the Y in my area and I used the rowing machine a lot.

One of these days I would like to add one to my home gym.

Cardio does not limit you to activities on your feet such as running, cycling, etc.

Speaking of which, I hurt my left knee somewhat last week playing basketball and need to take it easy on it. I need to find cardio equip at the gym that will allow me to rest my knee. I have not seen a rowing machine there but I have seen a sort of pedal looking thing that you pump with your arms. How would you guys rate the 30 minute workouts doing circuits as a decent cardio replacement for cycling, treadmill, or stairmaster?

As long as you keep your heart rate elevated it should be just as good. You could also go swimming if you have access to a pool - I know that's what I would do given this crazy temperature outside in mtl !
