Recumbant Question...
Hi everyone! I'm hoping to get some insight. I've got this cheapy recumbant bike I use at home, and I notice that after every time I use it my lower back and sciatic nerve are somewhat irritated. Now as I stated it's not an expensive brand either, so back support/seat sucks....it doesn't support my lower back, and yes I'm a shorty too and I'm sure this doesn't help either, lol!
What I was wondering is if anyone else has noticed similar issues with recumbant bikes and would you know of anything I can do to fix the situation...a pillow?
Thanks in advance....you peeps are AWESOME!!!

Seems like you answered your own question....
I've never been a fan of recumbants. My guess is that if you're reaching too far with your hands to hold onto the handlebars that could very well be throwing everything off for you, especially if you're working out with good intensity. Sounds like you got a bike that doesn't fit you.
I would start by staying off the handlebars, but you may already be avoiding them. Just my hunch

Actually I hadn't thought about not using the handles.....I'll try that too. As it is I do try my best to sit upright, with my back straight while still holding on...so maybe this will make a difference.....and if not I'll retire it to someone else, lol!
Thanks for the speedy reply too :-)

The joy's of being 5'2" and petite...shoes don't fit, certain cars don't fit, alwyas hemming pants....the list goes on, lol!! Now I can add that one to my list as well
Thanks again

I use my handles but I use a pad, from a chair, and wedge in to support the lower back, like when you weight train and move the seat forward so your back in secure, try that, although when I do 90 mins it still hurts a bit......but it should help, I have the sears spirit or esprit or something......got it free from a yard sale and it was new and worth 300 bucks and not too cheapo.......but I was looking for a cheapo one anyway, you can get good bikes and rowers in cheapo brands!!

Close to you, the warmth I
Around you, to hold fast to you! I was obsessed with how, in your embrace. No one in a night, one more than the street, you put my mind to try the fragrance on your body quietly into my nostrils, into my Heart, but you also know nothing about when I have lost! Your lips are so soft, so I can not help but greedy, your body is so small Sophie ah, I did not dare to relax you, I am afraid, afraid of opening up after you will be blown away, so I forced in with you that I treasure! I have been intoxicated, had been secretly sucking your beauty, this is how I envy ah, let me also become part of your body now, as I always have you, will never be lonely! In this small world, you are my all, embrace you and I will have the entire world. "Cold?" Your words are so gentle, Do not you know, you are my sun, with you, I will be cold?

I always wonder if this is just a first, tentative test from Skynet before it becomes self-aware and takes over, or if some person's actually bored enough to be posting this.
Regardless, it's not that easy at 6'3'' and big-ish -- only one brand of shirt fits off the rack, suits have to be custom, you have to eat until you're tired of it . . . (but I still wouldn't trade it )

Lol!! I wonder what it was about this thread that made that poster feel it would be a nice spot for a bit of creative writing? And why the angry face in the title line of his/her post, lol!?
And pliny.....I agree, I wouldn't trade my stature for the world either!!

My guess? I suspect some sort of aesthetic arrest below the portrait of Pablo Neruda Sailing to Byzantium on a Recumbant Gondola. Yeah, I know it's a shot in the dark.

I am a fan of recumbent bikes, but the handles have not been a problem for me. It was the saving exercise for my wife after her knee surgery.
