Default BPM importance

I've been running consistently for 3 months now, pretty much 4-5 times a week every morning. I usually do 3-4 miles a morning between 4.5 to 5.2 mph. The one problem im seeing is that there isnt a change in my BPM's ability to stay at the optimum fat burning percentage. Pretty much to stay around 130 bpm i'd have to crawl on the threadmill at like 4 mph, if i push it to 4.5 then ill rocket to 160-170 and stay there if i exceed 4.5.

Two questions are why is my heart not adjusting to the months of running i've been doing? i figure my bpm would gradually drop the more consistantly i run? secondly, how important is it to stay at the fat burning percentage level? I've searched the net but could not find any articles explaining the science behind exceeding that level in the BPM wont be optimum in burning fat

If you're referring to heart rate beats per minute, have a read of this thread. Calculate your maximum heart rate and plan your exercise to 75-85%.

130 sounds a bit low unless you're approaching a very old age.

I've been doing high standard cardiovascular fitness exercise for approaching 25 years now, mainly through rugby, and my heart-rate very rarely goes below 160 when I'm mid-activity. Nothing wrong with that and I'd be concerned if it did drop below that.

Glad to see this thread come up from time to time. This past weekend a 29 year old marathoner died at mile 21 of the White Rock Lake run in Dallas, cause of death is yet to be determined by I'd bet you it's some undetected cardio issue.
Keeping up with heart rate could be a key to discovering a problem before a tragic event occurs.
