P90x
Does the P90X thing actually work? I know it seems like a quick fix but I need to do something. Im 34 years old 6'2 230lbs fairly atheletic build. I don't have time to go to the gym (have a two year old that I watch during the day) I work 2nd shift , wife works first so we dont have a sitter. I have a decent enuff workout gym in the basement. Bench, squat racks and a 2 stage universal machine. anyway looking into this P90X routine to get my flabby self into better shape. Anyone thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Corey

I don't know anything about the specifics of the plan, but yes -- if you do 90 days of strict diet and exercise, you will have better cardiovascular conditioning and less bodyfat. If you are an untrained individual, you may also get some muscle gains.

I've seen the Infomercials and the science seems sound. The only thing I would say is the same thing I'm always harping on for the last few months and that is:
Fitness is not a 90 day project, its a lifestyle change!!!!
But for as for the program, it loks like its a good way to start if you want to fork out the cash. Just remember, you have to keep doing something or you'll go end up right back where you started

But damn! Don't those infomercials just make ya wanna get up and MOVE?! Lol!!
It would be interesting if somebody would give it a go for 90 days as a review....not me, lol! I've got a DVD that came as a 'bonus' item with a different purchase.....I'll take a peek at it sometime when I need something for a changeup in cardio.
ANY program you use for 90days is gonna give results....given you are eating right......what's the math here guys? 80% of it is diet and 20% is training, something like that......keep us posted though, I for one would be interested in your findings.

PX90 seems to work well, but the caveat is that the program is for people that are already in shape. And by "in shape" I don't mean having a 6-pack, but that has had years of lifting weights or doing sports.
I'd say give it a try. A cheaper alternative that works are the "Infinite Intensity" and "Never Gymless" programs designed by Ross Enamait ( RossTraining - Bridging The Gap Between Ordinary and Extraordinary.)

I haven't posted in a while, but I think I actually have something useful to add here.
I ran D1 track and Cross Country at the University of Oklahoma for 3 years in the 90's. Before that I was ranked by harrier magazine as one of the top 50 high school cross country runners in the country. I won the New England Cross country championships my senior year of high school. Ok. that's my fitness background. I'm not a stranger to being in extremely good cardio shape.
Fast forward 13 years and I'm slightly out of shape (but not overweight or anything). I run maybe 3 times a week and do some pushups and yoga occasionally. I still have the muscle memory for working out and there isn't anything wrong with my joints. I just need that little mid-life motivation to get me going and competitive again.
Enter p90x. I bought it 6 weeks ago in hopes of kick starting my exercise motivation again. And guess what? It works. I haven't missed a day in 6 weeks and I get up motivated every day to go do it. I'm eating right and I lost those 10 extra pounds I've been carrying around since a few years after graduation. I feel as good as I've ever felt. Now, I can't run a 4 minute mile or a 14 minute 5k anymore, but I don't want to anyway. I'm flexible, strong and I finally fit comfortably into my size 31 pants again (down from a barely squeezed into 32).
So, yes, P90x works for me. But, like others have said, it's not for everyone. You have to have know what working out is all about first. You have to be in fairly decent shape to start with. You have to be able to recognize what good pain vs. bad pain is too, because many first time exercisers push themselves too hard in their enthusiasm to get fit and end up injured because they didn't listen to their bodies.
Bottom line. This program works for those who just need that little motivational stimulus to get going after a layoff from working out. It's a starting point to a re-engagement with fitness. Fitness is a long term commitment that goes beyond 90 days. This is the FIRST 90 days on a new life plan. Take it for what it is and appreciate your renewed enthusiasm for fitness.

Alright people, Im orderin' it today. I thought that "Do anything for 90 days and you'll see a change." I'll post some pics as soon as I receive the program. I know it's gonna be a lifestyle change as well. The hard part will be the diet. I love food tooooo much! HAHA

Someone brought this up a few weeks back and it made me interested in the program. I've been lifting for a few years now and figured I'd give it a look over. I managed to find a copy of the program from a friend who bought it then crapped out on it. I read through most of the info and watched most of the DVD's so far.
I don't know if they tell you when ordering or not but it's not the only thing your going to need. You are also going to need a pullup bar or bands, some dumbbells - variable weights. They suggest a heart rate monitor, I'm 50/50 on that one. The guy also uses pushup bars, not need but they do give you some extra movement as your going along
The workouts themselves are not easy they are doing will work ya hard. I'm not going full P90X but I am integrating some of the routines into my normal 3on1off routine.
These are the three I really paid attention to...
back/chest - basically variations of pushups, chinups for an hour
legs - squatting with dumbbells, lots of lunges, wall sits.
arms/shoulders - Nothing new if you've ever looked up arm
After a while he'll change it up on you with Chest/shoulders, back/arms. But those top three you stick with for I think 30 days
I haven't really looked through polymentrics or the others but the lifting ones seem pretty good. You should have fun. Being you have a home gym already I'm guessing you are gonna stick with it. If you were a totally fresh noob I was gonna suggest getting a gym membership for 6 months to a year, if after that time you are still going regularly then try buying it because I'm guessing most ppl, like my friend, just quit out on it.
If your one of those types that don't like having a TV on when working out do what I do, use a ripper program, convert the audio into an MP3 and put it on an Ipod or other MP3 player. I do this stuff at an actual gym and no one knows

P90X is no joke. You can do it no matter what your fitness level. But you need to realize that if you are out of shape, you will feel it the next day and the day after. Tony is hilarious and will get you to do shit you never thought you could.

My sister doesn't have much room at home, plus she doesn't have a pull up bar. But she's still able to use the PX90. She's done a lot of things, weight training to sports like volleyball. And she swears by the PX90. In fact, she's building quite a lot of muscle in her calves and biceps.
As I said, she doesn't have that much room, and yet, she loves the product. I'm actually considering buying it just of her recommendation (and the visible improvements.)

All I have to do is move the coffee table. I don't really have to, but i want to be in front of the TV. You will need a pull up bar if you want to do it right.

My experience with the p90, is it gave me a personal trainer without the high costs. My arms have gotten bigger quick. I still can't lose my gut, too many cokes and fries.

I've been doing P90X for close to a year now, coming up in September. I swear by it and it works. Like all other fitness programs, the results are a by product of your efforts. So it will entirely depend on your efforts and how you eat. In the end, you have to take an honest assessment if you really followed the whole thing or not and not blame it on the program if results don't happen.
The key to P90X is write everything down on your worksheets! That way you'll see where you started and adding one more rep to it makes all the difference. I went from 205 with a 34" waist down to 185 with a loose 32" waist bordering on 30"
I was one of those cliches, couldn't sleep at 3 AM and saw this, been actually seeing for a while now, was in a depressed state, lost my job due to the economy, lost everything, went through a divorce, was on a cocktail of anti depressants, etc.
Then I decided to go get it. When they say this is life changing, it is! I've seen just about every home fitness program that ever rolled out and this is the first one I pulled the trigger on. I've always been a gym rat but since I got this, haven't gone back to the gym since. I'm glad I got it.
I've never felt so alive in my life. My outlook is great now, I finally got a job, everything is jiving. I can't believe how resilient I am now, light on my feet, and how I feel like I have the lungs of a 20 year old from the all the p90x cardio. I'm 36 this year.
Pull the trigger. But make sure you commit to it!

good luck 4 anybody who tries it. just not 4 me is all! key is motivation 2 follow thru. i find my motivation in my music. blast the speakers and psyche myself up is all ive ever needed in my gym. thats why i dont care 4 public gyms anymore. no waiting on others listen 2 what i want, as loud as i want it! at times it sounds like a big party going on i might add!
the p90x isnt much different then most excercise videos on the market in my eyes. basic millitary P.T. ive done my whole life.
up @ 5 calestenics, stretches, etc, then a daily 3 mile run is all ive needed 4 my cardio. then gym in the evening.
