Default Extereme Weight Loss Challenge!

Hi all,

Just wanted your advice on the best way to lose weight within the next 47 days given my current situation.

My Stats:

Gender: Male
Height: 5”8.5”
Waist: 41 inches
Stomach Area: 45 inches
Weight: 210 lbs
Body Type: Endomorph
Gym Experience (Weight training): Beginner
Gym Experience (Cardio training): Intermediate

I work from home and due to my very tight work schedule I can’t afford to leave home during the day to spare even a couple of hours for the gym (including travel time). I have free weights at home (dumbbells) and have recently bought a Rowing machine for the house. I know that the best way to lose weight is to have a clean diet in conjunction with weight training and cardio.

My diet for the next 47 days will consist of only protein shakes (Zero Carbs) 6 times per day + almond nuts + oats (only before every workout) + Fish Oil tablets + Vitamin Supplements & lots of water.

On the cardio side I plan to work out on the Rower EVERYDAY for the next 47 days, 3 times a day, 30 min per session, at low/medium (Rower has 12 levels. I plan to use level 4-6) intensity.

I have no idea what to do with the dumbbells and how to incorporate the weights into my training routine.

Given my circumstances do you guys believe that losing 28lbs in 47 days or shedding 7 inches off my waist in 47 days is a realistic goal providing I stick to my training regime and diet religiously? If not, what could I do to improve them to reach my goals?

Thanks

Lote

Should have some clean sources of protein besides shakes. Chicken and fish could serve as these.

Hmmm.....this is a bit of a conundrum now isn't it? What exactly is the prize you are competing for to be needing to lose more than 2lbs/wk? At a safe and healthy loss rate of 2lbs a week, you'd be looking at about 12wks or so of dieting......you're talking about some serious 'crash' dieting here.......especially since you have not the diet training (nutrional know how) to go about this feat. I'd be thinking you will actually gain scale weight the first few weeks just because you are a stranger to lifting.....muscle weighs more than fat, you see. However muscle is metabolically active and fat is not.....so in other words muscle burns fat. Fat does nothing but kill us slowly.

To answer your question: in your particular circumstances, I would have to say this is NOT a realistic goal, and could very well be setting yourself up for health issues......just my .02, maybe somebody else will tell you differently, but I think unsafe and unhealthy given your circumstances and experience with diet and training. Maybe half your goal and you will be right on target.

Go for short obtainable goals, like x amount of pounds say
in a few weeks, depending on your ,diet, exercise program
and desire ,it all together goes a long way ,I am not gonna
say it can't be done, but the first bit of pounds will come
off easy if you are serious!cutting 7 inches and 27 pounds
in 6 weeks and a few days is asking a lot from a newbie
so good luck actually its asking a lot from anybody unless
you have done it before.IMF

Echoing the above, more than 2lbs a week runs the risk of both getting sick or cheating during the diet, with a very high chance of a significant rebound after the diet (when you severely restrict calories, your metabolism plummets, so that when you go back to a normal, healthy diet, you're suddenly taking in way more calories than you need and your weight responds accordingly).

What's your current diet/calorie intake? What's your projected intake while on the diet?

Are you doing the Velocity Diet? I think that Mooshue's done that, and it seems to have helped a lot of people, though your workout doesn't seem to reflect what it calls for.

As for your question, 27 lbs in 6 weeks is doable, though your results in six months probably won't be what you're looking for. Going from a 41 to a 34 waist in the same time-frame seems optimistic, but doable with losing 27 lbs of fat, and some water manipulation (which I wouldn't advise), though there's probably a similar outlook six months later. Is there a contest going on with these numbers and this timeframe?

Thanks for all your replies!

I'm trying to lose this weight for something much more important than a major competition and it has to be done within the time period.

My goal is 28lbs and I will see how close I can get to it. I’m aware that the healthiest way to lose weight is around the 2lbs per week mark but that’s too slow for my needs. I have done extreme dieting and intense cardio work with my personal trainer before which helped me lose 12lbs in 3 weeks. That was just training 3 times a week. So my logic is that if I train (Row) 3 times a day for the next 47 days I may achieve what I’m looking for providing my diet stays on track.

I have calculated that I will be taking in 1781 calories every day. 169.2g carbs, 318.24g protein, 1.26g Saturated fats, 14.73g Monounsaturated fats and 5.73g polyunsaturated fats. This diet is a clone of the velocity diet. My diet up to now has been unstructured so I couldn’t say what my calorie intake has been on average.

The biggest weakness I have in this regime is the weight training. Can anybody advise on what I can do with a set of dumbbells? The Max weight they go to is 18 Kg. Would it be best to go for a full body routine 3x per week after 30min of rowing? If so can anybody recommend a small weight training program for me to use with just the Dumbbells?

Thanks again guys & gals!

Cheers
Lote
