Really good info for a beginner like me, thanks a lot for taking the time to do that. On the matter of you don’t have to be strong to be big, I remember reading somewhere that the key to real strength is training of the ligaments, e.g. as well as lifting weights holding them extended for longer periods of time. This was supposed to build the ligament strength up to a similar level to the muscle itself – therefore allowing you to use your full potential. It was a technique widely used by Victorian circus strongmen. I don’t know how true it is though but it makes some sense.
