First fall
Well, it happened; my first over-the-handlebar fall. We were on the final mile of a 40 mile hill ride and while taking a turn in the middle of town our friend ran off the lip and came back up on the road vertical - right in front of me.
With no time to react, I t-boned her. Luckily I had thought this through a million times and I instinctivly rolled while in air so that I landed nearly on my back. Fortunatelty for her, she was already down and I sailed right over her (can you imagine getting hit by me flying through the air?).
I landed hard and it took me a little bit to shake it off; hip is sore and my wrist in at least sprained (might get x-rays tomorrow). My camel back was filled with water and seems to have taken the hit when I landed; saved my back and shoulders I have no doubt.
It could have been much worse, I know; have my wrist wrapped (three fingers slightly jammed and swollen) and will go light with weights this week.
My bike was fine, her front tire was badly bent and couldn't be ridden; waiting to hear if her back rim was bent as well (seemed wobbly). The shame is her bike is a nice Trek carbon model that she just picked up two weeks ago.
All in all, I probably shouldn't complain; I reacted as I told myself I should and no road rash, just a sprained wrist.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune FP. Sounds like your foresight and camelback probably saved you from considerably more road rash. I would take 800 mg acetaminifine (sp) every 6 hrs for the wrist and not strain it until you feel completely recovered.

I have crashed twice - one road and one track. The bike always gets the worst of it...taco'ed two wheels.

Ouch!
Sounds incredibly lucky, considering ...
If you enjoy alcohol regularly in any form, (like I do ) I would recommend 800mg of ibuprofen instead of acetaminophen every 8 hrs
Hope you make out Ok, boss!

Doing okay today; a bit of the sore side in several places (shoulder, nech, thigh). I went to the gym, but didn't put any weight on my wrist which is recovering more of its mobility. I was pretty wiped when I got back from doing a simple abs workout, so I took an hour nap.
I haven't decided if I am going to spin class tonight, lol.

Glad to hear you're recovering well, FP. I've only crahed a couple times -- last one involved my front tire falling into a section of split asphalt. Glad you had the foresight to do the ol' hit and roll (or roll and hit).

Reading this post I was just thinking of the differences in road and dirt bikers. I must say the thought of sliding on pavement in spandex is scary.
Glad to hear you are OK and hope you are able to ride soon.

Day Two and am doing much better; looking forward to getting back on the weights tomorrow. I'll ease into it, but so far I'd say I'm about 80% and back to typing and using my hands like normal (except for a handshake earlier, I've hardly noticed any pain.)

I know the feeling. I had one bad one mountain biking. Flew over the bars and cut my leg on a switchback fence.

Could have been worse, could have pulled a Roethlisberger and focked up your face. I know Im not trying to be funny, just looking on the bright side. Glad everyone else involved is okay and not road pizza'd. I would hate to get snowplowed by someone of your stature. I think I would be on the shelf for weeks. Work that wrist jam out with a little icy hot. Work'd for me.

Score one for foresight and good fortune, FP. I had a dog run me down while biking out in the country. Got in between my wheels and I did the head over heels over handlebar. Took the business end of the macadam on my right shoulder and snapped my AC joint. The classic. A nice long scar now to remind me.
After reading your story it suddenly hurts again..... Glad you are doing okay.

Wow!! I'm glad your ok and mobile still, I've actually had to have a friend airlifted out of an local OSP after a bad fall. He ended up with a broken neck (lucky to be alive too). To this day he has lost some use of his left arm and his eyesight has been badly damaged, he's now legally blind. And yes he was wearing a helmet. It was amazing that he was so injured from such a slow speed crash.
I've also had an asphault lunch w/extra rocks, but usually the first thing I think about is, "Oh sh*t how messed up is my bike!!?"
How are you now FP? And how's the bike!

Jesus, I just saw a fella today as an inpatient pain consult (hospital here in Marietta) who fell off his racing bike trying to avoid a dog. He also went over the handlebars. His face is SOLID road rash...he has just about ground his nose off, and he has 5 thoracic vertebral compression fractures, 4 broken ribs on the R side, and his R clavicle is in about 6-7 pieces from what I can tell by Xray...U.G.L.Y..
I have him on continuous Morphine with bolus dosing... for now.... You ARE lucky!!!!

Wow, thats horrible! I'm very thankful that it wasn't any worse than it was; I got off pretty good. I was back to normal within 4 days and my wrists are fine now. All in all, it could easily have been much worse.
