I found a deal on Ebay I couldn't pass up so I'm building a new bike. Flyte was clearing out their 2006 frame stock to make room for their 2007 models. I got a brand new
Flyte SRS-3 aluminum frame, handlebars, stem and seatpost for $150 with shipping; then I bought a carbon fiber fork to go with it. So for $300 w/o shipping I got an aluminum frame, all carbon fork, headset, alloy bars, stem and seatpost that retails on their website for $630 total. The regular price for the frame alone is $299. I really wanted a titanium Merlin but it was going to be another year at least before I could afford it.
Right now I'll be transferring the 8-speed Dura-Ace grouppo & Ksyrium Elite wheels from my current bike then get 10-speed Ultegra in December. I was going to turn my current bike into a dedicated TT bike but now I'll think I'll sell it and get a track bike instead. I watched Track Nationals last weekend so i'm leaning toward that now instead of triathlon.
This is
NOT my bike but this is pretty much what it will look like when it's all done, including FSA crankset and blue tires. After the grouppo change I'll be getting some Mike Garcia wheels which will shed another 10oz. I hope to end up in the high 17 lb. range. My current bike is 20.5 lbs.
