I could be way off base, but is mountain biking an olympic sport now?

Mountain bike racing was recognized as an Olympic sport in 1993, it wasn't until 1996 that we saw our first event...that was in Atlanta, Georgia.

I'm sure there will be mtb in beijing - how the course is laid out is the question.

anyone know the steps to take to get to the olympics. i.e., like tournaments and qualifications and how to go about getting in the trials?
