Am I An Inconvenience To Society?
I love the thrill of cycling on the road. The breeze in your face, the scenery and not to mention the fitness advantages... But every time I go out, the idiots constantly buzz by me honking, flipping me off, etc. I've talked to a few non-cyclists about this and they say we are getting in their way. Um, maybe it is the cars that are getting in our way! What say you?

Those bloated azz-hats in their deathmobiles need to come to an awakening. They are detroying our way of life. Did you know that our roads were originally built for cycling? Cars are the johnny-come-latelys.

I believe the laws state that bicycles and autos are allowed to share the roads exist in all states in the US. You can find out here
http://www.massbike.org/bikelaw/statelaws.htm
People who don't share the road with bikes are dangerous and are generally sith lords in disguise! LOL!

yes, you are an inconvience to them. They are in a hurry to get to work, home, the fast food resturant. Enjoy the fact that you are. I do. Just be careful that one of those cagers doesn't run you over.

That would be the main concern IMO. They are driving two ton hunks of metal. I don't exactly stand a chance if they whack me, even by accident. Sometimes I question my sanity on this.

around here were i live theres plenty of cyclist all through summer coming and going. a daily thing seeing someone on a bike with a bedroll and knapsacks of clothing.
it all seems 2 be a factor of wether the cyclist actually tries and ride out in a lane designed for 75 mph traffic or not here. the law clearly states the cyclist has the shoulder usage of the road. when everybody abides by the traffic laws theres less road rage.

As an ...
...avid cyclist I totally sympathize with you. That being said...I do at times see cyclist in the road when they could be on some of the great sidewalk/bikepaths in my area. They give us all a bad name....
Luckily I live in an area where I can get great rides as long as I want without having to ever get on a road with cars at all.

Isn't it illegal to ride on the sidewalk in Texas?

Speed limits are the UPPER limit. Most roads have no posted minimum so cyclist have full rights.

I used to like to ride on the street or highway as well, but have since decided to go trail riding, that way all I have to worry about are bears, moose, and mountain lions. They are alot easier to get along with than a cager.

Ok, I'm done with Bruce Wayne for now. Back to the topic at hand...
Why don't more cities invest in bike lanes? A little paint goes a long way.

Cyclists are only an inconvenience if a) the rider is being a dope and is not obeying the laws, or b) the car driver is not paying attention, hits the aforementioned rider, and makes me sit in traffic while they clean up the road. No problem with sharing the road here. Oh yeah, but it def gets to me when a cyclist is in line for a light as if he/she were a car, then the whole line of cars accelerates at the rate of the bike, so fewer cars get through the light cycle.
When I'm on the bike, I prefer when cars act as if I'm not there. For some reason, I dislike when a car slows down and waits to zoom past, even when I'm on the shoulder and there's plenty of room.. makes me feel so self conscious.

On topic:
I don't mind cyclists at all. They have as much right to be on it as anyone else. Someone posted something about pedal bikes using the sidewalk and to the best of my knowledge, by right they aren't allowed to. They also have to abide by the rules of the road when on it. A cop can pull them over for running a red light or blowing through a stop sign if they so choose.
Off topic: Sorry but this thread made me laugh.
Personally I prefer trail riding to road riding.

All I am going to say, is everyone who responded here should read their states cycling laws. Then you know what right who has to what....
As to cyclists being dorks, ya, there is a lot of that....but then there are a lot of car drivers who are also dorks.....
By reading the laws, we all know where we stand.
