Default About to buy my first road bike

needed a new form of cardio to start cutting for the summer and what a perfect way to ride a bike. just went to the local bike shop and saw a 2006 Fuji Newest 3.0

after looking at customer reviews and price comparisons i decided to go with that (since its the only bike in my sub $1000 budget). i think its listed @ $690 but i hope to talk him down to $660 or so. are bike shops willing to negotiate??

also picking up a computer with it...they got one around $110 for one that does 19 different stats but i was mainly looking for just speed, distance, and a heart rate monitor which is something i really want and i think will keep me motivated..

here are the specs for my bike...anyone with experience please comment on how i did purchasing my first bike

I can't offer informed advice on this, but it looks like a sweet bike! I'm looking to pick up a first road bike myself, but I think I'll go used since I have too many expensive hobbies already.

...that you purchased an excellent bike for the money you spent. You don't need to spend crazy amounts of money on a bike you are riding primarily for cardio/ fitness purposes. Ride this guy for a while, then if you get bit with the cycling bug and start competing I am sure you would want to upgrade somewhat .... meantime ... that's a solid bike and great for your current needs.

I ride a Trek 1100 that is not much more expensive than yours and use it for pretty much the same purpose that you intend. I ride several times a week during the spring/ summer/ fall and just enjoy the heck out of riding...you can burn some massive calories on a fast one to one and a half hour ride. The only drawback is it just takes more time to get everything together for biking, esp if you have to transport your bike to a park or trail....well....that and the possibility of the odd brain concussion ( wear a helmet...especially when it's wet out ).

Good luck man...I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

BTW.... I have a really good Cateye bike computer. Tells you cadence, speed, avg speed, distance, and time. No heart rate monitor on mine ... but I can vouch for the brand as being very reliable.
