Rode in my First Century Ride today!
Well, today I rode in the Menominee River Century ride, there were people here from 12 states! From amateur to non human roadies alike.
MRCRide.com - Menominee River Century Ride... Since 1982.
I set out to do the 40K loop, but at the junction that separated the 15k from the 40k....well, I turned and went the 15k route. My oldest son would have ridden with me but he volunteered to work at the after race picnic tent. I would have enjoyed his company, but I am proud of him for helping out the local Boys and Girls Club at this event.
I did meet up with a nice lady and her daughter along the route and had a pleasant conversation with them after the ride. It was the young ladies 14th Birthday today too! Other items of note, I think I saw every type of bike there is, including a Quad bike that seats, you guessed it, 4 people. A whole family rides that thing and the dad was telling us how the 4 of them pedaling together makes riding in the wind very easy. More legs, more torque, less trouble in a head wind and more speed downwind....with less physical exertion!
This is a great ride and next year I swear -
1) I will be more ready for the ride in terms of conditioning etc...
2) I will do the 40k loop and
3) I will pray daily that I am able to do this ride next year.
Last year and the year before I had to be out of town during this ride. Before that, I either didn't have a bike or the bike I had was a P.O.S.
The only downside was I saw more people than I ever wanted to, in spandex that should not ought to be wearing spandex....

Ya, spandex is not for everyone, even if it does say one size fits all....
I am going to ride in a 100 miler on Aug 23rd, though I do not know if I will do all 100 miles...the route is 3 loops that total 100 miles, I know I can do one loop for sure, but will push for 2 if I feel up to it or have a ride partner....
I am getting my road bike for next year, by then I will have dropped the last 30 pounds or so and will be conditioned to use the thing. I had the LBS order it this week.
Still looking good for the September Century ride in Gladstone MI (In da UP, eh?) Anyone wanna meet up, up dere, in da UP? Eh?

Man...I would LOVE to do that!!!
Haven't been riding the past 4 months at all really. We had our little boy April 12 and it's been really tough to get back out and train with any consistency...I will though.
Not that I could get up there right now anyway, but let me know how that ride goes man!

You'd love it Saint. Beautiful country in the U.P. My In-Laws have a place in Presque Isle WI about 140 miles from there. Winding old style roads, lots of places to stop for the veiw, a waterfall or two and the views of Lake Michigan are spectacular. We'll be up there late august, I can't wait. I can't do a 100 I'm strictly a recreational rider. Only problem is sharing the road with the logging trucks; the drivers are courteous and give you as much room as they can but a double trailer with a couple tons of logs always kicks up rocks. Took one in the forearm once, had a bruise for three weeks...
