Getting myself a personal trainer
I've been lagging at the gym lately and have not been happy with my workouts. Contacted a guy I use to play hockey with in the over 30's league who is a personal trainer to give me a hand...and a kick in the ass!! This guy has done work with the Bruins and is well respected here in Ma.
I will keep you all posted as to what he comes up with and how it works out for me.

Thanks for all the responses. I actually know what I want from him but I think if I hire him, I'll have the little extra motivation to get to the gym. I have been terrible lately and actually starting to feel guilty about it. Once he works up a routine I know the motivation will be there.

I'm actually looking forward to it. I've just been going through the motions and I've been maintaining alright but not improving...even after switching things up. This guy is not one of those personal trainers that works at the gym but an independent who trains some of the Bruins. I should be dragging ass tomorrow!!!

Guys I am speechless. We did abs, arms, and calves tonight...I know, kind of a weird combination. He was introducing me to a technique of his called "L-ROME" or Limited Range Of Motion Exercise. Guys this was incredible...we did Tri pushdowns and he goes "I bet you do these with the whole stack of weights" and I say "Yeah". He then puts it on 60lbs and puts the rope on...he has me suck in my gut, pinch my shoulder blades together and as I push down I drive my elbows into my side...I mean really drive them. I felt it on the first rep. I did only five of these and my tri's were BURNING. We then did it with the straight bar and then the little bar that has the 90 degree bend in it all using the same technique. It hit all three heads of my tri's like never before...I was hooked.
Next off to work the bi's. He has me stand against the wall with my feet about 18" in front of me, knees slightly bent. He hands me a 40lb ez curl bar and says "Flatten your lower back against the wall, put your head against the wall and as you curl, push your elbows against the wall while also driving them into your body...HOLY SHIT what a burn again...with only 40 lbs!!!!! I'm really feeling it and it is just the change up I needed. Just simple little isolation moves that get results.
Here is his website http://www.satinfitness.com/index.htm
Going back next Wed for the next round. This is blowing my mind because I always did a descent amount of weight and here I am doing these tiny little amounts of weight and feeling like I pushed and pulled a truck...awesome.

I've done biceps like that before. It is a killer, simply because it forces your form to be so strict.
Why not start a blog, list your current measurements, etc., track your workouts, so we can watch your progress? That way you'll be doubling your motivation.

Yeah Fart I should start a blog...only now I would be embarrassed with weights I'm lifting!! He said that this will be light weights but my strength will go through the roof while leaning me out(I'm ashamed to say I have a bit of a spare tire). I told him I liked doing squats and deads and he said we wouldn't be doing any of those. I can't imagine what he has in mind for legs and back days. Hey if he helps me lean out while getting stronger, I can always incorporate squats and deads in the future.

Nothing to be embarrased about. It's not about how much you're lifting, it's about how much benefit you're receiving.
I'm curious where he's going with this.

I'm curious too!!! It's just weird going from an ez curl bar of 110lbs for 3 sets of 10 reps to 40lb and feeling it more!! This is the kick I needed.

good for you, dvd!
i'm always surprised that guys are willing to move massive amounts of weight with bad form rather than move significant weight with great form! (scapular retraction & engaging the core is so key to form along with head & neck positioning...)
never compromise your form for weight! not even to impress someone, especially if that someone is you! there are newbies in the gym watching when you don't know, and if you're too caught up in the weights than doing it right, then they'll just copy you!
kinda like it's been said earlier, "Go big or stay home!" or "Go HARD or go home!", i say, do it right or don't do it at all! either that or "coming through! get out of my way!" (just kidding on that last one...)
i'm happy to say that i'm finally moving the stack for tricep pressdowns with v-bar, but i didn't start there... with strict form, focus & determination, it's amazing the progress you'll make!
i look forward to your blog, dvd! hopefully you've already started it... wink! wink! nudge! nudge! say no more...
