How big?
How big is it possible to get going all natural. There definetly is a difference between old school bodybuilders with the modern drug-loaded version.

You can get pretty damn big naturally, though it will take longer and depends on your training, your diet, your sleep patterns and most importantly, your genetics. As long as you worry about how you look to yourself, as opposed to comparing yourself with guys on the bus, you'll be happy with your results.

Word, painless! "How Big" mostly depends on your genetics. Utiliizing those genetics is done through training and diet. Whats your height and weight? The shorter you are, the "bigger" looking you'll get, as your muscles seem shorter and more compact. Not sure on the science of it, but taller guys have more problems getting bigger than shorter ones.

Sasaku, bump on what painless and falcon said. How big you can get is based on first your genetics, then your diet and workout routine. As far as the difference between old school and modern bodybuilders, what do you mean by old school? If you mean from the 70's, then they were still on steroids, but modern day bodybuilders have access to more drugs than they had back then. If you mean the true old school bodybuilders from the infancy of weightlifting, then it is hard to compare them to even today's natural bodybuilders because of the availabilty of supplements such as creatine and protein powders which can have a dramatic impact on your physique. Just keep working out and be pleased with the gains you make and forget about comparing yourself to anyone but yourself!! Good luck!!

There were some guys from the 40's and 50's, pre-steroids, who looked pretty damn good and got pretty large.
The goal is to get develop your body to it's fullest potential. Some have greater potential than others. When you're natural, you have to try a little harder, stay up with the latest nutritional info and supplements, and stay current on the latest training techniques.
Even with drugs, there is still a limit on how big one would get. My limit would have been much less than Dorian's or Nasser's.

Naturally its not a matter of how big you can egt, but where your strength limit is. Muscle strength and size are both equally important to improve one or the other. This si why you can't train solely one of the other. See my article Hypertrophy and Load for more on this. Any ways, you can pack on alot of muscle in the process. All the variables previously mentioned are bang on.

I wasn't asking about myself, I was just curious about the typical male human in general. Looking at pictures of some bodybuilders it's easy to tell from when they didn't use steroids to when they started.

great thread! the real goal isn't to get big, is it? i know it may be one of the major goals... but isn't it to get stronger, more powerful, healthier, more fit, along with getting to the size that we can be content with? i definitely don't want to get huge, but i do want to get a bit bigger than i am, along with all the other things i mentioned... and for you single guys & gals, it's to impress each other, right? just kidding, i think...
