Default Stabilizer muscles???

3 months ago I injured my shoulder at work, it is still a bit tender. My physical therapist told me to begin "light" strength training in order to build up the stabilizer muscles. He also stated that once the stabilizers become straonger I can start lifting on a regular basis without worrying about the acromion or rotator areas.
He showed me a few exercises, but I was thinking of using light free weights as well. Any suggestions?
Also, what is a good ab workout to target the "love handle" area? Im not overweight, but I have failed to maintain regular exercise becaseu my job always keeps me on the go. I would appreciate any and all advice, keep in mind I am a noob to this forum so have mercy...

the "love handle" area you are talking about are the obliques (side muscles)

heres a link for exercises on them:

also, if you was recommended to do light strength training then weights should not be a problem so long as your not falling below 12reps because then i dont think that would be 'light'

Here's a link to an article in Sports Medicine Advisor on rotator cuff injuries: Rotator Cuff.

I've also had good results with the following program: Rotator Cuff Rehab.

As far as yur "love handle" is concerned, what your saying is that you've accumulated fat in that area if I understand you correctly. There is no exercise that will spot reduce fat. You need an overall resistance program combined with cardio and good nutrition.

Try and follow the physios advice. If he said use dumbbells then fine, otherwise I would advise against it.

Nutrition will get your abs in check, not oblique exercises, see Dave's nutrition class thread in the nutrition section
