Default Very Scared!!

hey guys
just started weight training again after a long injury. first day back i worked my chest- 4x8 bench, 4x8 incline bench, 4x10 dumbell fly, 4x8 dumbell pullover.

Next day i was feeling it badly, even tho i warmed up pre/post workout and eat well. i had lost alot of mass due to my wrist injury, but after 1 session, my pecs have grown bigger than they have ever been, and iv been lifting for 3 years. its 5 days since that workout and they seem 2 still be growin even tho iv done nothing else?? and they are soooo heavy it hurts to walk nearly, i even think they are starting to look like breasts! lol- the muscle growth seems to be in the middle so they rise sharply from underneath.

whats happening to me!!!!??

please get back to me!

That sound serious, I have no idea but I'd see a doctor to be sure. Especially if they hurt more than just being sore.

Ouch. Sounds nasty. Perhaps you overtrained after your injury time, and should have returned a little lighter and gradual. I had a similar problem a while back, after xmas i came back and trained my shoulders and back, the next few days at work, just lifting my arms perpindicular to my body gave me incredible pain in the shoulders.

The feeling of soreness that you felt in your chest after the workout was Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. It's short name is DOMS, you can search that term in this forum, or google it to find tons of information about it.

DOMS is a sign that your body is busy recuperating, because it had just been through some physical activity that it is not yet accustomed to. When you did your chest workout, it had been the first time you worked out those muscles to that degree in a very long time. Once you consistently workout those muscles again, you'll get the feeling of DOMS less and less, because your body will become familiar with the exercise/movements.

At the cellular level, the pain from DOMS is caused by microscopic muscle tears combined with inflammation. Those microscopic tears are caused by working out your muscles, particularly the eccentric part of an exercise, like the downward phase of a bicep curl. The pain from DOMS is caused by inflammation in these tears. When your body gets used to doing these activities, you will experience DOMS less and less. To lessen the feeling of soreness from DOMS, you can massage your muscles and stretch your muscles.

Your chest hasn't grown significantly, yet. You had just worked out that muscle group to a high degree, so there is a lot of inflammation in that area right now. Your chest muscles are busy recuperating from their workout, so the muscle tissues are busy repairing themselves. After they're done repairing themselves, then you'll grow, but only at the cellular level. You will not see the actual muscle growth in the mirror, not until many months (or years) have passed.

In short, that's what's happening to you. No, your pectorals are not turning into breasts. There's nothing to be afraid of. Just give your body enough time to recover, so you can begin your next workout.
