Default Increasing my endurance

Anyone here have any techniques they have used to increase their endurance? I don't like being short breathed and tired during sports so I have been trying lately. This is what I have been doing

I up'd my 2day a week cardio/abs to 3 days a week
I up'd my cardio workouts from 15minutes to 25minutes.

Heres kind of a cool thing I have been doing and it has been working really well. I have an iPod and when I'm on the treadmill I powerwalk at a speed of about 3.5-4.0 for one song with a 7.0 incline. Then on the next song I put the incline on 4.0 and the speed up to 5.5-6.5 and I jog through the next song. My last cardio workout I started to become short of breath and slow down near the end of the song, but today I ran right through the same song and onto the next song for about 20 more seconds. I felt really accomplished, It was a great workout!

Plus I did my legs and shoulders and had a delicious protein shake from the cafe.

What you're doing sounds pretty good so far. Building up cardio is similar to lifting. Set a goal, try to improve on at least one factor (distance, time, speed, effort level) every time. Listening to music is a great way to take your mind off the physical aspect, which can improve your performance by not thinking about how tired you're getting. It also helps to keep pushing yourself by remembering things like the human body is capable of 10 times more effort than is commonly believed. Whenever you're tired, it doesnt mean you have nothing left, it just means you've passed your point of comfort. Keep going anyway. I'm not advising anyone to hurt themselves, but what I'm saying is, if you stay within your comfort zone, it will be very difficult to expand your physical boundaries. You may want to give this a shot, if you can complete this workout, your endurance should be well beyond average;

Its also one of the best equipment-free fat loss regimens I've ever done. I did this workout everyday, and was receiving comments about the results within a month and a half.

You may also want to try this out, for your lung capacity.

I'm no expert, but I hope some of this helps, it worked for me.

Thanks man. In the start I was just doing cardio to lose fat, now Im doing it becuase I want to actually increase my cardio performance. I want to be able to run and not get tired. A lot of people hate cardio with a passion, but that 25 minutes went by today like nothing because of the music. I just keep saying to myself "Theres only one more verse to this song, I can do it" or "just one more verse, the chorus and its over I can start to power walk again". A lot of things are completley up to your mental powers.

I was reading this article and scientists did experiments on 2 groups of people
in the experiment.

Group 1 put there hand in a cooler of water and they pulled there hand out on an average of 1 minute after putting it in the cooler

Group 2 put there hand in the cooler of water and was told to think of their most amazing sexual fantasy they could think of. Everyone of them pulled there hand out either 3 minutes or later.

Its kind of funny, but really interesting how much of this stuff is in your head.

When u say endurance, do u mean anerobic endurance? If so, then mabe HIIT may help. U will find that u will be able to maintain the poundage and reamin focused for a longer period of time.

I think almost the same way as you do while doing cardio, theatrain. Sometimes, I run for a specific amount of time; and other times, I'll run for a specific number of songs or verses. If I'm running for a specific number of songs or verses, I'll never let myself quit in the middle of a verse.

When I played football, during all the grueling challenges like Hell Week, conditioning, or any other challenging task we had to do, I usually tried to think pleasant thoughts while physically exhausting myself. Most of the time, I would imagine myself laying down on a field of fresh cut grass drinking a nice & cold Coke-flavored Slurpee. And you know what? It actually works. Thinking pleasant thoughts to yourself really does take your attention off the pain, and focuses more of your attention on the mechanics of just getting through the workout.

Yeah. Its just amazing how much is in your head and just a little bit can push you a long way.

Damn, you mentioning football makes me think about how good I was and makes me also regret not playing in highschool. The coach since 11th grade asked me to join the football team from what he saw in gym class. I would run over the varsity kids. I could intercept or block any pass and I still can. I just graduated this year and lately I really been regreting not playing football. I just think to myself that I had natural talent with pretty much no knowledge or practice at football if I would have trained with a team and stuff I could have been pretty damn good. Maybe could have picked up a scholorship or who knows what. And plus Iwould be in way better condition lol.
