I Don't Sweat During Workouts
I never really though much of it before, but am now wondering if something is wrong. I'm working out very intensely but for some reason don't sweat. The area I work out in is around 70-75 degrees. I gained a decent amount of muscle over the last few years but am now having a very hard time making any gains. My weight is 190lbs. How much water should I be drinking. I never really get light headed or ill during workouts, my muscles are just really spent as they should be. Any ideas or information would be appreciated. Thanks

Don't "sweat" it man. It sounds like you need to do some cardio training before you start worrying. Some people perspire differently than others and if your not sweating much it just meens your sweat glands are not as overactive as some. If you are lifting and not sweating that is...if you are running and susutaining a heart rate sufficient to burn body fat and not sweating at all then I would talk to a doctor because that is rare.

Thanks for the replies. I cut most cardio out of my workout in an effort to gain a bit more weight. Now i just do a few min of cardio before my workout an thats about it. Currently my workout is short but very intense, lasting about 45min. I'm doing mostly compound movements, 8-10 reps, 3 sets of each exercise, 1 min rest between sets and exercises. Don't sweat one bit during this whole thing. When I workout with buddies, the intensity in which they workout isn't close to that of my workout and they are dripping with sweat which is why I'm starting to wonder about this.

Do you sweat in other situations such as when you're outside in 95 degree weather, doing cardio, etc? I really don't sweat when I'm working out with weights, but I do when I do cardio (elliptical, treadmill, etc.).

What is your body composition? Ht, wt, BF%?
What is your diet like?
I believe sodium, potassium intake may play a role.
Water consumption should be 1+ gallons per day.
Your body sweats as a built in cooling mechanism when it reaches a certain temp. The idea is raise your temp through activity. Have you switched up your routine at all? Intensity is key here. Try alternating your set/reps every few weeks.
Do you do multi joint, ground based exercises? Anyone who does, sweats- a lot. Squats, cleans, deadlifts, rows, and even bench presses. Using machine after machine wont get the job done.
I am a big guy, and sweat in the gym. If i'm not sweating, my workout isn't intense enough. I'll even wear sweatshirts (hence the name includes sweat) on some days until my body is warm enough and sweating.
Warmup is also important. A lot of trainers wont start to workout their clients until they're breaking a lil' sweat.

do you also feel overly hot while doing an intense workout or running even though your not sweating? lightheaded, possibly headache while heavy excertion? if any of these things is noticed its a possibility of hyperhidrosis. regardless you should get yourself checked out by a medical proffesional. hyperhidrosis isnt something to take to lightly. in extreme conditions your more susceptable to heat exhaustion or heat stroke if left unchecked and you overheat from activity. basically just like your car or truck, without a cooling mechanism present you will burn up the motor.

I was in the same situation. I found out...like most of the post so far....cardio is key to getting the heart rate up and making the body work hard enough to have to start cooling itself by sweating. I've found my lifting work outs are a lot better by putting the cardio back into my routine.

if your not breaking a sweat with just lifting your not lifting intense enough in my opinion. if the weight is heavy enough and im working hard enough my body always breaks a sweat regardless of the ambient temp.

I agree. Despite what I posted earlier in this thread, I noticed yesterday just how much I sweat during my workout. I guess I never really think about it. It's not hot in the gym, so I guess I just don't notice it like I do when I'm outside in the summer sweating.

lol....i am forced to workout in my garage and do have a heater but wont utilize it unless its extremely cold outside. it can be 35* in the garage and after my workout my hooded sweater is wet under the pits and along the neck area. i usually have to keep the hood up otherwise my ears get too cold. but i did notice in the winter i have more endurance with the workout do to the cold temp and its effect of cooling myself down.

Wear a sweat shirt and sweat pants to the gym. That'll solve your problem.

Thinking about moving weights out to garage. I like that way of thinking.

On a separate note I think I sweat too much, It's manageable when I lift weights, but when I run I always end up soaking wet.

Sweating not only helps to cool the body, but it also is a way the body releases toxins and other "crap" out of the body.
