Default Ketogenic diet question

An amateur bodybuilder I know is looking for some info and I thought the brilliant people on EF be able to help. He recently began a ketogenic diet in preparation for a competition in September. Does anybody have an opinion about whether this type of diet is the way to go? Anything to watch out for?
Thanks for any insight!

I don't know much about the Ketogenic diet, but I do know that being in a state of ketosis is not very healthy, so he should take caution.

When I did my first bodybuilding show about four years ago, I used keto-sticks to keep myself just outside of ketosis. You can go to any drugstore and purchase them there. You usually urinate on the stick and it turns a darker color if your body is in a state of ketosis.

Here's the Wikipedia page on ketosis which shows a picture of the keto-sticks and chart:

If i am not wrong, prolong state of ketosis may be toxic for the body, and it lower the ph of ur blood (acidic) may is bad for the organ. Be sure to take in lots and lots of green fibrous veggie and everday to bring the blood pH back. The carb up during the weekend should also consist of lots of fruits on top of starchy carbs also (banana is a good choice, since it is high in potassium, is a starchy source, highly alkaline and slow burning).

But I have never compete b4, so i wouldnt know very much abt pre-contest dieting, prehaps some of the vets here can help.

Thank you both so much for your insight and info. I really appreciate it. Sounds like he needs to proceed with caution, if at all!

Complete guide to ketogenic diet by Lyle McDonald. Its quite common in the bb world for competitors. Ive never used this shared file service before and i don't remember where i got this pdf from, i think you have to pay to get it cause i couldn't find it again so i had to upload it.
I tested it on a couple different computers and no spyware or anything came across so it seems safe for everyone.
Enjoy!

you're very welcome. Just because things are dangerous doesn't mean they don't work and aren't used
Just do it carefully to the protocol and you'll be fine.
