will this spark lat growth?
I was looking for a way to make my lats start poping out more.
The rest of my back is growing great, I've been deadlifting a lot and its helped
Someone reccomended I try a purely pull up routine once in a while.. so do 80 pulls ups as my routine, no matter how many sets it takes..
Then the next week go back to my regular routine

Back width is one of the things we all strive for...love that V taper! The key to back width is upper lat development. Contrary to what I believed for years, doing wide grip pullups does not "make" the lats wider any more than other basic back movements such as bent over rows, DB rows, cable pulls, etc. The key is is to stick to these basic movements and really squeeze with heavy weights. The lats pull the arm in a variety of directions so hitting them in a variety of ways will make them grow. Big lats = wide back! Pullups and bent over rows are 2 of the best IMO.

Oh, BTW, I forgot to answer your original question...
DOing the pullups like you mentioned kicks ass! I used to do that but went to 100 reps. I'd try to do it in under a certain time. It will make you sore

one major key is working your lagging muscles first, when your body is completely fresh that way
you get 100 percent workout out on your areas that need attention the most, this will vary from person to person.
