Im curious about how many of you here use mental training to assist you to get in the peak state, build more muscle more quickly and recover rapidly ?

Diet and lifting weights is the manifestation of the drive that originates from the focus, discipline, and desire of that mental aspect, which is so often neglected in bodybuilding.
Some bodybuilders have alluded to this aspect in more veiled terms, such as Arnold explaining his use of visualization, to paraphrase: 'When doing curls, I imagine my biceps swelling up to fill the entire room.'
Other bodybuilders, such as the immortal Frank Zane, have expounded upon mental training famously. There's some material out there, which I have recently started to digest. Check some out:
Frank Zane: in reaching the top of his sport, no bodybuilder fused mind and body like Frank Zane did | Muscle & Fitness | Find Articles at BNET
My own un-scientific guess is that a regular meditation or relaxation practice would help reduce cortisol levels and assist in the quality of your muscle-building sleep.

tidalwave
I work as a hypnotist and hypnosis trainer in australia. I have worked with numbers of bodybuilders and I would say that out of all the athletes I have worked with they are least aware of how much mental training could help them perfom better, grow more muscle and recover faster.
I think it was one of the members of the russian powerlifting team who said they focus 70 % on mental training and 30% on physical .
I'm not saying that is a good percentage just what the russian powerlifting team did.
I am soon to release a hypnosis/ bodybuilding program. From what I can tell there is nothing like this program on the market.
A bodybuilder who decides to use hypnosis to improve sleeping patterns......performance will improve
or motivation , or for adjusting smoothly nutrition changes.
With physical, mental , emotional and spiritual life attended to any athlete will become much more effective
tidalwave - send me a personal msg. I would be happy tohelp you with some mental training tips.

Of course working with one on one is the best option.
With hypnosis cd's.
-It is benfical to go in with the mindset of 'THIS WILL WORK FOR ME'.
There are some other factors but I won't go on about them here.
Obviously there are good quality and poor quality hypnosis cd's
I'm wondering was the cd you used related to bodybuilding, diet, exercise etc?

i cant comment on hypnosis cd's, but yes mind of matter is what it takes. if i dont have the right mindset walking into the gym it drastically affects my training session. over the period of 20+ years ive had my ups and downs in moods and know i have to get in the zone everytime to see the progress i desire. ive even learned to channel negative energy to my benefit taking my frustations out in the gym on the iron. when pissed off it makes 4 one hell of a workout!
