Thanks IMFREAKZILLA, I know I am far from what most would call strong but I am happy with my progress. I have been training seriously for a little over two years, and when I started I was struggling with 115. I have gained about 20lbs since that time. I would love to bench 315, I am working on that now.

I've not been training in over two months now mind, but some things in life (like education, family etc) have to take priority.

Word! I was pretty stoked today, I had been struggling on the bench for the last little while, somewhat of a plateau.

I just got back in to the gym last week so I’m starting off like a newbie. I am working out with 145 to 150. I can do the 1st set of ten and then the second I get to about the 6th rep before I have to rack it. Help me out here please; if I go heavy but low reps am I going to build up my strength or what? BTW first post on this forum. Thanks.

snapsstary, build up some stamina and strength it will all come in a matter of time
don't rush it,it will be there before you know it,some people will be telling you go with reps of
8/6 then go for 3 or 4 I am saying let that come into place later since you are just
starting out again.stick with your high reps for a bit then slowly moved to 8/6
then go to 3/4,let your muscles get used to performing and expanding and getting that
blood rush, remember muscles have memory, once they been stretched they know the
way back faster than a newbie.Again I can't stress the importance of patient and
being serious about your lifting.I feel you trying to rush yourself, stay cool
and avoid injury.Only your body will know when its time to upgrade.Nobody knows
your body but you, keep that in mind.

Welcome to EF!
IMFREAKZILLA said it all, just take your time. Get in a groove first, just get in the habit of going for a while before you start worrying about how strong you are.
If you start putting too much weight on the bar before you are ready you'll get hurt, and your bench numbers do not go up when you are rehabbing! LOL.

Well, for Dumbbell Bench Press I can do 12 repetitions with the 100-pound dumbbells. At my gym, the 100-pound dumbbells are the heaviest ones they've got.

Never bench anymore. It tends to flare up my tricep tendinitis. Like insex, I only use DBs now (for free weights) but am not nearly as strong. I might get up to the 80's for inclines for 8 reps. I always do inclines first so maybe I'll try some flat bench DBs first as long as my elbows don't start hurting. Overall, I don't care too much about weight. I am actually making better gains with lower weights and better form/less rest between sets.
