I'm picking up a camera for my mother-in-law; for under $200, Costco has a sale on their Kodak V530, which is a 5 megapixel camera with a 12x zoom and a photo dock. Online price $209.99 - $40.00 instant rebate puts it at $169.99!
Check out reviews at epinions.com before you buy a sub $300 camera; lots of junk out there.

dpreview is one of the best sites around for digital camera reviews. stevesdigicams.com is another
If you like to shoot pictures rapidly, such as in a series or doing sports shots, pay attention to the write rates of the memory card media that you select. That means that not all SD or CF memory cards for cameras record data at the same rates. The rate at which the camera you select can record the image on your memory card varies from camera model to camera model and varies by brand and sometimes even model of memory card. If you have an interest in this subject, go to:
http://www.robgalbraith.com/
The test reports are comprehensive and can make an impact if you are one who does a lot of rapid fire shooting.
