What a logistic nightmare for the rescue authorities....thousands upon thousands homeless, no power,no fresh water, food shortages.
Whats to come, more deaths no dobt, diseases, looting and the economy?
And at this time of the year there maybe more to come.
I feel for all , my hand and heart goes out to all.
What a terrible tragedy.
BTW....This is not a rep gathering thread!!!

It's tragic, was hearing tonight how alot of people didn't leave when asked and some people are going around in boats and cutting into the roofs of houses as people went up into the attics and are trapped there. Some have axes to hack their way out and are on the roofs but some elderly are still trapped inside the attics with limited oxygen.

I think Gatorman is actually over by me, we live on the west (gulf) coast of Florida... this monster spared us over here. We still have people trying to recover from last years 4 hurricanes... Unless you have personally experienced something like this you cant even imagine, the pictures honestly dont do it justice. Never mind the emotional trauma of listening to those winds howl around your house for 24-36 hours wondering if the roof is going to hold or if a tree is going to fall on you. That was a huge issue here in Florida last year, the storm tracks changed so rapidly many people were never warned or given enough time to get out...Others were told to move inland toward Orlando only to have Charley shift and come right thru there. Anyway, I am rambling, but much help and prayers will be needed for these folks. Maybe EF can setup a way to donate and submit it to the Red Cross on all of our's behalf...FP is that possible?
Here is a link for the Red Cross Donation Site: https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp The National Disasters Fund is the one that responds to hurricanes and such
Update: looks like they are evacuating all of New Orleans water is rising again there, could flood entire city...approx 80% already

We regularly donate to Red Cross and encourage others to do so. If I ever am able to retire, my wife and I have talked about becoming Red Cross volunteers.
The last I saw this morning, 80% of New Orleans was under water. I can't imagine the devastation, not to mention the risk of disease.

The sick twist to this little story is that a lot of the people that did follow instructions and evacuate came here to Georgia only to be met by tornados.
I just read about a family that fled to Helen, Ga to avoid the flooding only to have the hotel they were staying in torn away by a tornado.

My wife and I first visited New Orleans 9 years ago, and fell in love with the city. From the incredible food, riding streetcars, museums, and eating Beignets (?) while watching the Mississippi, to partying on Bourbon Street until the early hours of the morning, it is a fascinating city.
We were last there in 2003, and have now cancelled reservations to go back in September, and we are both saddened to know that the city will may never be the same.

This is what I'd like to do to the looters:
It's amazing how a tragic event can bring out the best and worst in human nature. I'm sure some of these looters are doing it for survival, others, however, are just taking advantage of the situation. What I wonder is, where are they taking all this stuff? Everything's underwater!

I shared this with the moderators, and with FitnessPhotos and I thought I'd share it with the rest of my friend's here.
***********************************************
I have been glued to the television when I am not here. In Dauphin there is an oil rig that has washed ashore. Yes, an oil rig. It was carried 60 miles by the storm, and now it sits right on the beach.
They say New Orleans is 85% under water. I doubt that it will ever recover. They say it will be months before they can make any leeway. New Orleans is below sea level so where are they going to put all that water? After all that water is gone there will be the sewage, gasoline mixture that comprises it now to clean up. After, and if, the water receds they will have all that human waste and the untold dead bodies to collect. It is my guess is that New Orleans as it once was is gone forever. I just do not see how they will ever be able to recover. Costs will skyrocket into the billions. Who's is going to pay for all that? That is just New Orleans. What about the rest of the Gulf Coastal towns? What about Alabama, Mississippi?
Of course, I am waiting for the fundementalist Muslims to say that is God's judgement for our sins, especially for our involvement in Iraq. I wince as I expect to hear that any day now. The United States have already been blamed for this by some countries, namely Germany. They say that our refusal to adopt tougher pollution laws has indirectly caused this to happen by upsetting the atmosphere. I marvel at how stupid a human being can be at a time of horrific tragedy.
Speaking of stupidity, I'm also amazed at the extent of the looting. They are nothing but animals. I'm deeply saddened at the depths of depravity a human being can sink to during a crisis such as this. I can almost understand the looting if you are stealing to provide for your family, but what the hell are you doing with a stolen stereo system? How about a looted television set? Just shoot them, and be done with it. And don't you dare give me the arguement that it was their poverty that drove them to do it. That is nothing more than an excuse for evil behavior. No matter what the circumstances a man still has the ability to choose his own path; either he chooses his dignity or he chooses to give in to his bestial nature is entirely up to him.
I am really saddened by the enormity of this tragedy, and the untold cost that it will have human lives and property damages. The director of FEMA said that some people will never be able to go home ever again.
Hug your wives. Go sniff your children. Pet the dog, or cat. Call your parents on the phone. Tell them all how much you love them tonight, and be thankful for what God has given you. Pray for those that are suffering immeasurably tonight. God be with them all.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. And let us all by thankful for what we have rather than what we lack.

My mobile home park in Ft. Lauderdale , FL. received no evacuation order , so everybody stayed.
Lost about 10 ft off the front of my car port , a front window and power from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon.
A 10ftX10ft maybe 400 LB section of patio roof came off a house a block away and went flip flopping over a section of houses before finally landing right on my driveway.
I and a neighbor had to run out and put cinder blocks on it before it flies up again.
Looks like i got off easy compared to New Orleans and Mississippi , though.
