Has something at a gym ever driven you out?
I just had to come on and see if this is just us or if it's happened to someone else too. :-)
Has something at your gym ever caused you to leave before you were done? I only ask cause my wife and I were just at our apt. complex gym. Not that exciting of a place but they have a few treadmills and it's close so we go there for morning cardio. I've been going to gyms for over a year now and I know what sweaty gyms smell like. Today was no different there was another guy on a treadmill. it smelled like a room with lots of rubber coated stuff in it (if that makes sense) the three of us are running, I'm zoning, kinda in my own world... deep in thought about random things. Then this one guy comes in and OMFG it was like he's got a 20 foot aura around him, it was foul. You could tell instantly he was a smoker, but it was almost like he hadn't bathed in weeks. The smell would just get stuck in your nose.
My wife lasted for another minute on the treadmill then went to the far side to get away. I finished the faster side of a 2-min segment (2 up 2 down) we just ended up leaving. which really sucks because we wanted to get a good 30 mins of cardio and some light lifting before getting the house in order for the big game today. But just couldn't take the smell.
But anyhow, got me thinking on our walk back, has something ever driven you from your gym when you've been in your workout?

Many things have made me not finish my workout. Here is a list:
1. Yoga Class: Being put behind a farter intentionally! Friends gotta love them.
2. The Loud Grunter that always follows you around, so you can't focus, and this dude doesn't lift heavy.
3. Spotting a female friend or wife, and they drop a 25 lb weight plate on your big toe.
4. The guy that whistles while doing cardio on the elliptical or treadmill (yes I have a guy at my gym that does this. . .so annoying . . . .sounds like a baby train coming right at you. You put headphones on, the whistling gets louder. . .ARGHHH)
5. They guy/ person that just keeps talking to you while you are working out, and they don't get the drift, that you don't want to talk to them or don't know them.
All of the above has made me leave early, or not finish my workout. This is why I try to find alternative ways to workout and not the gym only.

I've had my cardio cut short by stench before as well. My old gym had a very small cardio room probably 40x40 ft. and we had what the stereotype thread described as the stinker who would grace us with his bounty everyday. I was about fifteen minutes into a 45 min. session on the treadmill when stinky arrived and was smelling extra special this particular day. I didn't end up vomitting because I left but probably would have had I stayed. Somewhere along the line these people lost the concept of hygiene.

aaah yes, the 'close talker' and the 'stinker' gotta love those guys... how about this though, back in the "pimpin" days for me, when I used to notice females at the gym and actually have balls enough to start up a conversation with them later during cool downs I had this one girl that was a sociopath and would literally stalk me at the gym, but come to find out, she only showed up on days I was there and used to ask some of the attendants when I was going to be there... I ended up not renewing my membership and then eventually left town. I started changing up my whole routine just cause of this.

Can't say I've ever left the gym, but I shake my head about every day when I see the posers yacking it up more than they are working out. One day a couple of weeks ago I had to listen to this little skinny guy chat it up with another guy about they history of comic books. They debated over the quality of certain super heroes and lamented over the political undertones of some of the books. They went on for at least half an hour. Luckily, I finished in their area and moved to another, far from the reaches of their super powers!

come to think about it after the comic book hero quote i remembered a situation from my high school days with these 2 guys fighting 1 of them being extremely drunk and stating i need to turn to the south east and gain more power, everybody cracked up watching the fight and it abruptly ended after he said that.

Oh yeah comics nowadays are really aim more towards young adults and kids and not all feature hunky dude and chicks in spandex. One example would be "Sandman" by Neil Gaimen.
I am also a comic junkie (who happened to workout btw)
