That's why I love political cartoons so much. Most of the time, they portray the image effectively by getting meaning of the message across better than wordy articles.

I'll be the first to admit that we are pretty pampered and spoiled here in the USA. We think we're in bad shape if we can't afford a new car or new clothes. Even the poorest among us are better off than the average person in many third world countries.

That's not fair, no one here was comparing the tragedies to our gas and economic problems and we are helping them, or at least trying so it's not like we're so consumed by our own problem that we turn a blind eye to the rest of the world, certainly not americans as a whole.

I understand what you're saying however...
My interpretation of this cartoon was more along the lines of putting things in perspective for those in the USA who do turn a blind eye to the rest of the world. The thing is that everyone in America has choices. When gas (or anything for that matter) is more expensive, then some might need cut back on something else if they have to. I hear people every day griping about gas prices. The other day I was paying for gas at a Turkey Hill and the guy in front of me was hissing and moaning about how much it cost to fill his tank... at the same time he was buying $20 worth of lottery tickets.

No one is suggesting that it's the same dude. It just makes you think about all the crying we're all doing over the price of gas. (Myself included) In the larger picture our problems are minor compared to real tragedy. If the price of gas is my biggest problem this week, than I really am blessed and fortunate.
Ok I'm stepping off my soapbox now.

How you deal/look at things everyday is really who you are as a person. Some will bitch and complain about how much it costs to fill up their brand new Lexus...while across town a single mom is smiling because her 92 Focus started and she can get to work on time. It comes down to what are you comparing "it" to. Everyone can see the good in what the have/don't have or bitch about every little thing and never be happy.
It comes down to what/who are you comparing your life to....
