Obama Warns GOP "Lay Off My Wife"
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
ABC News: Obama Warns GOP 'Lay Off My Wife'
Without even discussing her specific comments, I say that if you go out and campaign every day, you are fair game. Your comments will be scrutinized and sometimes that could mean they get turned around and used against you.
Just my 2 cents.

And I'm sure Obama's political campaign will be free of scrutinizing everything McCain says...yeah right!

Public office, public comments, public scutiny, public opinion, they all go together like it or nor, if she's campaigning for you then it's fair game. They are not attacking the lady personally, they are quoting things she's said while on the trail. No one had a problem when they asked McCain's wife about his alledged impropriety.

If he wants her out of the "line of fire"...then she should not sit down in front of a camera. This is not the first "mistake" made by a spouse in a campaign.

Totally agree with you guys. She is essentially working for the campagn and therefore is part of the political process. If she is just there as a show of support and standing by him silently then she should be left alone, but if sehe is campagning for him, with his blessing, then what she says can be used.
I'm in no way saying that she should just sit at his side and be quiet but if she's gonna play the game she has to know the rules. Besides, look at all of the recent 1st ladies. They have all been involved in the work of the administration so is she were to become 1st lady her views and beliefs would impact the country.

Obama supporter here. You should not go after family even if they are campaigning. You're trying to beat the guy not his wife. I understand and empathize with what she said and they're trying to present it out of context. The only time where family is fair game in my opinion is when they're part of your attack strategy.

She is more than fair game for the criticism of her spoken words, the way to eliminate the attacks on her is to not have her open a mouth on the campaign trail

Don't apologize. That is a PERFECT example.
Also, now that Chelsea is an adult out stumping for mommy, I even think her comments are fair game.

Nothing wrong with disagreeing on something. Friendly debates are a good thing.
Just curious... Do you think Bill Clinton should also be off limits since he is a family member?
