So if this -- six months from now, if the verdict on this effort is that we've wasted the money, we built things that were unnecessary, or we've done things that are legal but make no sense, then, folks, don't look for any help from the federal government for a long while. They're going to make sure -- the folks in the House and in the Senate are going to make sure you wear the jacket, not them.

This is a big deal -- this is a big deal. It's also being closely watched not just by me, but by the President, and by Mr. Devaney, who is one of the most respected IGs we have in the federal government, and is known by many of you. And it's also being watched by the taxpayers and it's being watched by the media.

That's right because NOBODY messes with Joe!

But perhaps Joe has been too busy trying to advise the President on how to screw up Afghanistan even more, because lots of really stupid Porkulus Projects are getting past the eyes of Joe, the watchdog SHMOTUS. The Senate GOP caucus released its list of their favorite of the wastes of taxpayer money, and some of them are real whoppers such as mapping Rabbit Poop (so this is what the President meant by "shovel-ready projects.")

1. $300,000 FOR MAPPING RADIOACTIVE RABBIT FECES:
“A Week Mapping Radioactive Rabbit Feces With Detectors Mounted On A Helicopter Flying 50 Feet Over The Desert Scrub. … $300,000 In Federal Stimulus Money.” “A government contractor at Hanford, in south-central Washington State, just spent a week mapping radioactive rabbit feces with detectors mounted on a helicopter flying 50 feet over the desert scrub. … the helicopter flights, which covered 13.7 square miles and were paid for with $300,000 in federal stimulus money, took place in an area that had never been used by the bomb makers. … Marylia Kelley, the executive director of a California group called Tri-Valley Communities Against a Radioactive Environment, said the rabbit cleanup was ‘kind of funny, in a sick way.’” (“Even Rabbit Droppings Count In Nuclear Cleanup,” The New York Times, 10/14/09)

2. $4,200-$5,500 TAX CREDIT FOR PURCHASING GOLF CARTS:
“President Obama’s Stimulus Plan… Is Now Paying Americans To Buy That Great Necessity Of Modern Life, The Golf Cart.” “Thanks to the federal tax credit to buy high-mileage cars that was part of President Obama's stimulus plan, Uncle Sam is now paying Americans to buy that great necessity of modern life, the golf cart. The federal credit provides from $4,200 to $5,500 for the purchase of an electric vehicle, and when it is combined with similar incentive plans in many states the tax credits can pay for nearly the entire cost of a golf cart.” (“Cash For Clubbers,” The Wall Street Journal, 10/17/09)

3. $219,000 TO STUDY THE SEX LIVES OF FEMALE COLLEGE FRESHMEN:
“Five Hundred Syracuse University Freshmen Will Divulge The Details Of Their Sex Lives … $219,000 In Stimulus Funds For The Study.” “Five hundred Syracuse University freshmen will divulge the details of their sex lives as part of a women's health study called ‘The Women's Health Project,’ being conducted by Michael Carey, SU professor of psychology and medicine. Carey has found himself the target of nationwide criticism from conservatives since he received $219,000 in stimulus funds for the study, which looks at the sex patterns of college women.” (“SU Sex Study Raises Concern,” The [Syracuse] Daily Orange, 9/8/09)

4. $1 MILLION TO RENOVATE “THE SUNSET STRIP”:
“Sunset Boulevard, Also Known As ‘The Sunset Strip’ And One Of The Most Famous Streets In The World, Will Be Getting A $7 Million Facelift After More Than 75 Years Of Use, With A Free Million Dollar Nose Job Coming From Uncle Sam. The City of West Hollywood Council received one million dollars in federal funds from the Federal American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA), (otherwise known as the $700 billion federal stimulus package), for the long-planned Sunset Strip Beautification Project, which is scheduled to break ground soon. The guaranteed funding will allow the City to increase the already nearly $7 million budgeted for this project by an additional $1,105,000, meaning enhancements to a project that already included the resurfacing of the roadway, sidewalk and improved landscaping.” (“Feds Stimulus Sunset Strip Beautification Project,” WeHoNews, 9/28/09)

5. $2.3 MILLION FOR BUG RESEARCH IN CONNECTICUT:
“$2.3 Million” “Federal Economic Stimulus Cash” For “Rearing Large Numbers Of Arthropods” Such As “Nasty Invasive Insects Like The Asian Longhorned Beetle, The Nun Moth, And The Infamous ‘Predator Of The Hemlock,’ The Woolly Adelgid.” “‘Rearing large numbers of arthropods’ probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you think about using Connecticut's $3 billion in federal economic stimulus cash. But the U.S. Forest Service is using part of the $2.3 million it's spending here to fix up a quarantine research facility in Ansonia. (The arthropods, by the way, are nasty invasive insects like the Asian longhorned beetle, the nun moth, and the infamous ‘predator of the hemlock,’ the woolly adelgid.)” (“Money For Nothing,” New Haven Advocate, 9/1/09)

6. $6 MILLION FOR A SNOWMAKING FACILITY IN THE 15th SNOWIEST CITY IN THE COUNTRY:

Some Proposals Have Been Criticized As Wasteful, Such As A $6 Million Snowmaking Facility In Duluth, Minn.” (“The Challenge In Counting Stimulus Returns,” The Wall Street Journal, 10/27/09) (Top 101 Cities With The Highest Average Snowfall In A Year (Population 50,000+))

7. $500,000 TO STUDY “SOCIAL NETWORKS LIKE FACEBOOK”:
“A $498,000, Three-Year Grant” To Study “Social Networks Like Facebook.” “Millions of Internet users have been enjoying the fun -- and free -- services provided by advertiser-supported online social networks like Facebook. But Landon Cox, a Duke University assistant professor of computer science, worries about the possible down side -- privacy problems. … To delve deeper into these issues and begin the search for alternatives, Cox recently won a $498,000, three-year grant from the National Science Foundation. The funding is part of the federal stimulus package called the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).” (“Seeking Privacy In The Clouds: Research Aims At Isolating Social Network Information From ‘Control Of A Central Entity,’” Science Daily, 10/15/09)

8. $380,000 TO SPAY AND NEUTER PETS IN WICHITA, KANSAS:
“The City Recently Launched A $55,000 Project To Spay And Neuter Pets Owned By Low-Income Residents. Unwanted Pets Ultimately Cost $240 Apiece To Collect, Board And Euthanize, the city estimates, so the program covering 800 animals should save taxpayers money in the long run. The stimulative effect? That is harder to gauge. With the $380,000 overall Wichita has received from its share of the stimulus, the city estimates that it is directly funding 32 jobs so far. The bigger job producers, such as construction and transit projects, are due to start in the coming months.” (“The Challenge In Counting Stimulus Returns,” The Wall Street Journal, 10/27/09)

9. $3.4 MILLION FOR A TURTLE TUNNEL IN FLORIDA:
“The Other Third Of The Stimulus, Government Infrastructure Spending, Has Been The Most Controversial From The Start. Some Proposals Have Been Criticized As Wasteful, Such As … A $3.4 Million ‘Ecopassage’ To Help Turtles Cross A Highway In Tallahassee, Fla.” (“The Challenge In Counting Stimulus Returns,” The Wall Street Journal, 10/27/09)

10. $30 MILLION FOR A SPRING TRAINING BASEBALL COMPLEX FOR THE ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS AND COLORADO ROCKIES:
“A Big Chunk Of The Money That Will Pay For A New Spring-Training Baseball Complex On Tribal Land In The East Valley Will Be Delivered Via A Financing Program That's Part Of The Federal Economic-Stimulus Plan. The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community says it may borrow as much as $30 million of the estimated cost of the $100 million complex near Scottsdale that will become the spring home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies.” (“Stimulus To Help Tribe Build Baseball Complex,” The Arizona Republic, 9/17/09)

Once again we see that anytime you give the federal government money, much if it is bound to be wasted. These are only ten examples--remember Tom Coburn had a list of 100. All reflecting dollars that would have been much better off back in the hands of the tax payers. If you think these dollars are wasteful, just wait to see what happens if Obamacare gets passed

Political correctness can be deadly

All of us have been taught to be culturally sensitive to others. The question is how far this sensitivity extends. To the clothing someone wears? To the food that someone eats? Or does it include other things?

Fellow students knew Major Malik Nidal Hasan as a strong and vocal defender of suicide bombings and being against U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan. He even got into arguments with other soldiers who supported the wars. Why didn't they say anything?

"The system is not doing what it's supposed to do," said Dr. Val Finnell, who studied with Hasan from 2007-2008 in the master's program in public health at the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. "He at least should have been confronted about these beliefs, told to cease and desist, and to shape up or ship out...."

But Finnell said no one filed a formal, written complaint about Hasan's comments out of fear of appearing discriminatory.


"Out of fear of appearing discriminatory". Thirteen soldiers are dead now, 30 more are wounded because Hasan's classmates were scared of looking insensitive and possibly called "racists". It wasn't worth it to make a fuss.

Some may point to this as an extreme example. It isn't. Cultural sensitivity has gone mad. We look to our educational system to learn how we should be viewing other cultures.

The goal of multicultural education is not only to teach children about other groups or countries. It is also to help children become accustomed to the idea that there are many lifestyles, languages, cultures, and points of view. The purpose of multicultural curriculum is to attach positive feelings to multicultural experiences...and will feel friendly and respectful toward people from other ethnic and cultural groups (Dimidjian, 1989). [Emphasis added]


Indeed. There are "many lifestyles, languages, cultures, and points of view" around the world. Are all these points of view equal? Or just different?

Slavery in the United States had to be abolished? Why? The South had a "tradition" of slavery going back two hundred years. The North had a "tradition" of freedom. Why couldn't the Southern states have their way of doing things - and the North have their way? Because the United States stands for freedom and liberty for everyone. Inherently, people can not be property. To have slavery in a free country was antithetical to the founding.

If this is true about the United States, what about countries without the traditions of freedom and liberty? Can we absolve them of their obligations because they have their own "traditions"? What happens if their "traditions" include slavery? The subjugation of women? Honor killings? Polygamy? Are these "traditions" valid? Should we respect their "traditions" as equal to our own? And in the words of multicultural education, should we "attach positive feelings" to these "traditions"?

Canada has recently been struggling with the polygamy issue. "Religious freedom" seems to be at stake here. British Columbia has been attempting unsuccessfully to prosecute a break-off Mormon sect for polygamy. The issue has been sent to the Province's Supreme Court for their judicial opinion.

B.C. certainly is not alone in its discomfort, not the only jurisdiction to have some interest in the judicial opinion. Canada increasingly welcomes Muslim immigrants from the Middle East and Asia, and immigration authorities and officials with provincial social services face hard decisions over bids to bring in and support multiple wives. Like the Bountiful believers, these families are ready to fight to defend their marital practices under the banner of religious freedom. Federal Justice Minister Rob Nicholson, declaring polygamy fundamentally out of step with the values of modern Canadian society, quickly announced federal lawyers will join in the defence of the polygamy law [keeping polygamy illegal].


Isn't it the right of a man - if it is his "tradition" - to have more than one wife? Are any of his wives complaining? Why should it really matter to us... it's their "tradition".

Another "tradition" Canadians are being forced to confront is child rape. Some in the Canadian military in Afghanistan haven't successfully reconciled their Western values with those of the native population. A former Canadian soldier, Travis Schouten, was so disturbed by what he witnessed, he began drinking and almost destroyed his own life.

Others in the military note they were told such practices were an age-old part of Afghan culture. One soldier who e-mailed Canwest News Service stated he served at the same base at another time and troops had orders to stop any rapes. But he also noted they were told the practise of “Man Love Thursdays,” as it was called, involved consenting Afghans and no one was raped by older men. The children involved were given small gifts or money in return for sex, soldiers said.

Schouten, however, questions whether a five- or six-year old child, or even an 11-year-old, can consent. “The Canadian Forces wants people to think it’s a cultural thing, that everyone is doing it, because it takes the onus of responsibility off them to stop it,” he said.


Should we be "attaching positive feelings" to this "tradition" as well?

What about the "tradition" of female genital mutilation? This is a old "tradition" that dates back 1,400 to 2,000 years. Does it matter how old a "tradition" is? Shouldn't we show more sensitivity toward that "tradition"? Why not?

A letter responding to a BBC News story about female genital mutilation says,

It is wrong for us to take the moral high ground and condemn the cultural practise of others as barbaric...We must first understand the role of circumcision in those African societies that practise it before we result in outright conclutions [sic] and condemnation.


Really? The writer is declaring it "wrong" to take the "moral high ground" as he puts it. If so - our values must be equal to those who conduct these female genital mutilations. If we are not willing to condemn such acts, we are complicit to them.

This writer must also want us to be complicit to slavery as well. There are at least 27 million people enslaved around the world. Are we to accept this practice as acceptable?

In Mauritania, the centuries-old institution of slavery has never ended. Slave raids ceased long ago; for generations, those who are slaves constitute a caste that continues from one generation to another. Precisely because it is so much a part of the scenery, slavery in Mauritania attracts little attention; it appears to be part of the eternal order of things.


We can go on and on and bring example after example of monstrous "traditions" around the world. Why should we care? These are their "traditions". Who are we to take the "moral high ground"? Perhaps these slave owners would like to immigrate to the United States or Canada with their "property" - are we going to stop them? Will we turn a blind eye to all these abhorrent "traditions" when they occur in Africa or the Middle East, but put a roadblock to them when they approach our shores?

Where are the limits to cultural sensitivity?

Polygamy doesn't seem to be a big deal, but is slavery? Child rape? Female genital mutilation? Other topics not covered here... child prostitution? Honor killings? Where does it stop?

The Declaration of Independence makes it very clear what Western Civilization stands for: Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. We must make it clear to all people around the world that we are not ashamed of our Western values. We believe that all people, where ever they may live, are given these rights by their Creator - that we have no interest in importing their "traditional" values - and are willing to take the "moral high ground" and condemn their "traditional" values as barbaric, and not welcome here or anywhere else in the world.

Cultural sensitivity is fine and wonderful when restricted to food and other inconsequential things, but not when it comes into conflict with basic Western values of human life and dignity. Calling these terrible acts what they are - barbaric - rather than pretending they are equal to our own Western values costs people their lives around the world. We saw at Fort Hood the results of cultural sensitivity. Hopefully thirteen of our newest martyrs have taught us this lesson.

DETROIT -- Five men who were arrested in connection with conspiracy to sell stolen goods and being followers of a radical Imam who was killed during FBI raids were formally charged in federal court Thursday.

Muhammad Abdul Salaam, Mujahid Carswell, Abdullah Beard, Adam Hussain Ibraheem and Garry Laverne Porter all either stood mute or entered not guilty pleas on federal charges ranging from illegal possession and sale of firearms, arson, theft from interstate shipments and tampering with vehicle identification numbers.



The men, except for Carswell, were arrested during a series of FBI Raids on Oct. 29. Several other men, who did not appear in court Thursday were also arrested.

After a two-year investigation, the FBI raided three locations in Detroit and in Dearborn and arrested several people suspected to have ties to a group called the Ummah, which translates to “the brotherhood.”

During the raid in Dearborn, Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah, aka Christopher Thomas, was killed in crossfire with the FBI.

Ummah’s primary mission is to establish a separate sovereign Islamic state governed by Sunni law, according to FBI charging documents. Abdullah called his followers to an offensive jihad, rather than a defensive jihad, according to the FBI.

FBI charging documents also said the group was financing its version of Islam by fencing stolen goods and that their leader, was interested in killing federal agents and making a bomb.

Carswell is Abdullah's son. He was arrested a few days after the raids in Canada. He was the only man who was already out on bond.

The rest of the men will remain in police custody until they apply for bond.

Local 4 has learned Porter, 59, is a convicted felon and a current teacher at A.L. Holmes Elementary School in Detroit.

Deeper Look At Ummah

The group consists primarily of African-Americans who converted to Islam while serving sentences in various prisons around the county.

The nationwide leader is believed to be Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, formerly known as H. Rapp Brown. He is currently serving a life sentence in prison for the murder of two police officers in Georgia.

Al-Amin, a veteran of the black power movement, started the group after he converted to Islam in prison.

"They're not taking their cues from overseas," said Jimmy Jones, a professor of world religions at Manhattanville College and a longtime Muslim prison chaplain. "This group is very much American born and bred."

The FBI built its case over two years with the help of confidential sources close to Abdullah who recorded conversations and participated in undercover operations involving the sale of furs, laptop computers, televisions, energy drinks and power tools.

Abdullah received at least 20 percent of any profit and claimed the "Prophet Muhammad said that it is okay to participate in theft; as long as that person prays, they are in a good state," stated an affidavit.

The FBI complaint described Abdullah as an extremist who believed the FBI bombed New York's World Trade Center in 1993 and the Oklahoma City federal building two years later.

The group preaches violence against law enforcement officials and has trained members of the Ummah inside of a mosque located on Joy Road on how to use firearms, martial arts, sword fighting and other types of self-defense in anticipation of government violence, according to the FBI.

Undercover agents in the organization have told the FBI that Abdullah used to discipline its members starting at an early age by beating them with sticks on their hands, knees and legs, and that once he beat a boy so badly that the child was unable to walk for several days.

Abdullah was spiritual leader at the Masjid Al-Haqq mosque in Detroit until the group was evicted for not paying taxes. When the group left that location, a search turned up empty shell casings, and large holes in the concrete walls, which were used as shooting ranges.

The group moved to a location on Clairmount Street in Detroit and put up a sign in front of the building Wednesday evening notifying the members to meet in another location.

In October 2008, a source the FBI called “credible” recorded statements by Abdullah at a mosque during prayer where he said that Muslims need to cut ties with Christians, Jews, and Kuffars, which the FBI said means all non-Muslims.

“Obama is a Kafir. McCain is a Kafir, all the rest of them Kuffars, are Kuffars…. The worst Muslim is better than the best Kafir,” said FBI documents.

Dawud Walld, executive director of the Michigan Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said the FBI paints a very different picture of the Abdullah that he knew.

"He was known by thousands of Muslims in Metro Detroit. He was very well-respected amongst his piers and other Imams," said Walld.

Walld said Abdullah used to open the mosque to homeless people and he would hold regular soup kitchens.

"They're altering his legacy and someone needs to speak out about it and the good things he has done," said the defendant's brother Juhadel Jihad. "They killed a great man. He shouldn't be labeled anything than that. He was a God fearing man who prayed five times a day and gave to charity."

“A tough and fair pathway to earned legal status will mandate that illegal immigrants meet a number of requirements—including registering, paying a fine, passing a criminal background check, fully paying all taxes and learning English,” Napolitano said Friday at a panel discussion at the liberal Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C.


“These are substantial requirements that will make sure this population gets right with the law,” Napolitano said. “It will help fix our broken system.”

Napolitano said the Obama administration is working to end the recession and put Americans back to work but said giving legal status to illegal aliens will “strengthen our economy.”

“Requiring illegal immigrants to register to earn legal status, as I discussed earlier, will strengthen our economy as these immigrants become full-paying taxpayers,” Napolitano said. “As labor leaders have made clear to me, immigration reform will be a boon to American workers.

“Think about it: unions will never achieve the best terms for workers when a large part of the workforce is illegal and operates in a shadow economy,” Napolitano said. “By contrast, the status quo not only hurts American workers, it also stifles potential opportunities to grow our economy.”

Napolitano said that she has seen a “major shift” in the immigration landscape, which the Obama administration hopes will make it easier for Congress to pass new immigration laws.

Included in that shift, Napolitano said, is a more secure border between the United States and Mexico, tougher law enforcement that has resulted in more arrests of criminal illegal immigrants and confiscation of contraband, and fewer people coming into the country illegally because of current economic conditions.

Yes those secure borders, the ones that allowed those recently arrested domestic terrorists into the country.

“Compared to last year, seizures in all categories—drugs, smuggled cash, and illegal weapons—are up dramatically. For example, just looking at bulk cash, Customs and Border Protection has seized at the border more than $34 million in cash being smuggled southbound so far this year—more than four times as much as at this time last year.

That's because things are much worse. There are more seizures and arrests to make.

“Moreover, the immigration debate in 2007 happened during a period of historically high levels of illegal entry into the United States. Two years later, because of better enforcement and the current economic circumstances, those numbers have fallen sharply. The flow has reduced significantly – by more than half from the busiest years, proving we are in a much different environment than we were before.

Here's the real fun part. While the President is going to give Amnesty to those who broke the law to come into the United States, Congress is looking at passing a health care bill that will put everyone who does not buy health insurance in Jail? I guess now we know who the REAL criminals are.
