Douglas and Penn to watch world series with Fidel Castro??
HAVANA — Michael Douglas staged an impromptu walking tour of the Cuban capital's historic district Tuesday, posing for photos with construction workers and surprised residents.
His visit came two days after fellow Oscar-winner Sean Penn arrived in Cuba, reportedly seeking an interview with 82-year-old Fidel Castro, who has been little seen since announcing he was suffering from an unspecified illness in July 2006. He stepped down as Cuba's president in February of the following year and was replaced by his brother Raul.
Penn traveled to the Isle of Youth, off mainland Cuba on Monday to meet with local artists. There was no word on whether he got to see Fidel. He interviewed Raul during a visit last year.
Little was known about Douglas' plans for his four days in Cuba, but he was accompanied on his walk through Havana's old quarter by Patricia Rodriguez, an official at the city historian's office.
Among the sites he toured was a state-run tobacco shop, where employees showed the actor the finer points of rolling a Cuban cigar.
It was unclear if either came with a U.S. exemption to Washington's ban on travel to Cuba.

I also heard this morning- unsure if it is true- that they plan to watch the first game of the World Series with Castro.
Sean Penn and Michael Douglas are terrorists and I will not support any of their movies or what they do.
Hollywood is full of knuckle-heads.

OK That is a little excessive. Changing terrorists to Idiots, buttholes, or complete morons and I can support what you say.
People from many countries including my own vacation in Cuba so does that make those people terrorists? Don't get me wrong, those two actors are idiots as they are American and should abide by the laws of the USA and not undermind them becase of their "better than the rest" mentality just because they have been in a few movies.

1) The entire nation of Canada can travel to Cuba. Are they terrorists, or is it simply Americans who travel there? Is it Americans who travel without explicit permission from the State Department (as several trade and Congressional groups have visited). What about Americans who fly without permission, but go legally on a foreign carrier and while in Cuba refrain from spending any American money, but rather spend money that they have earned in foreign countries, and therefore violate no laws at all in the process. What about the farmers who send grain to Cuba, are they terrorists? What about so many people in Miami who send money back to relatives in Cuba, are they terrorists as well. Last time in Niagara Falls, if I had Havana Club rum (not the Bacardi one) and cuban cigars would I be a terrorist? Please define which, if any, of these groups are terrorists. Your terminology isn't making any sense.
2) Who the fuck cares if someone went to Cuba? Let's say Sean Penn and Michael Douglas went to Cuba, espoused the goal of collectivizing agriculture, art, industry, and family life under a totalitarian government. You're free to disagree with them, I'm free to disagree with them, they're free to agree with themselves. BECAUSE IN AMERICA WE ARE FREE TO HAVE OUR OWN OPINIONS, WHETHER THEY ARE AGREEABLE, DISAGREEABLE, OR COMPLETELY HYPOCRITICAL (i.e., having the freedom to support a foreign system that would deprive their own citizens of that very freedom).
3) Sure, they're idiots. Susan Sarandon is an idiot. And by idiot, I mean "I disagree with them a lot, and would rather not hear about their political beliefs." So I don't go searching out for their political missives. Problem solved.

oooh...I wish i had a Cuban cigar.
P'shaw...Castro is a relic. The only Cuban I regard as a threat to my welfare owns the local basketball team!
Anyone with half an interest in history who, at this point, had a chance to sit down and talk to the man would be a fool to pass it by.

Agreed. And 9 seconds of Google have shown me that Penn is there to try and interview Castro for Vanity Fair. Which I would read (wil and I already had this discussion about Castro's biography by a NY Times writer).

Maybe they're both there to shoot the sequel to "The Game"?
I have always been a fan of Douglas, but never really Penn. Penn can act, but to me that's where his talents end. I don't really care for his antics in the media and other things he opens his mouth about. There are many other idiots like him, too...as mentioned above.
I will admit that interviewing Castro would be a very interesting conversation.

My only problem with it was the possible casting for a Castro Biographical movie.
The guy from Mad Men would be better as JFK, Castro is tougher, Banderas is too much a pretty boy, How about Deniro, he's a good charecter actor. . .

I guess I was a little early in calling them idiots because I was assuming their motives but I really get annoyed with how a lot of actors have that "holier than thow" attitude because they were in some movies. They decide something should be a certain way and act as if you don't agree then you're beneith them.
Its not that I disagree with their politics, rather their tactics that make me call them idiots. (by the way, thats not me saying that they're beneith me because there have been many times that I would call myself an idiot too!)

First off- I did not actually mean that they are tried and true terrorists. But really- why would they feel the need to interview him. I guess I am more angry at the fact of how Hollywood acts as a whole. And varbo says the way I see it "holier than thou". I hate the way that most actors put on a persona to try to show how much better they are.
By the way- you can't always take everything I say as 100% serious. If you haven't figured that out in the last 4 and a half years

and all I do is mock the conversative viewpoints, haha!
I'd say that there are two great reasons for an interview: the gain his personal perspective on his view of history (both his own and international events) and because it's a lot easier to deal with people when you understand their motivations. I would love to be able to read in indepth interview with Hitler or Charlamagne or Reagan or really pretty much anyone who had a role in great events; its gives us more context and enriches the historical record.
I think we should interview Iranian leaders, Taliban guys, bin Laden, whoever. They represent a viewpoint and we have to understand that viewpoint before we can co-opt it and ensure an American hegemony on power. And we need to bring back Baywatch.

Holier than thou? If I had the means I would like to fly to a space station for a week, or interview Castro, or any other political madman.....if I could 'buy' it, why not?
However, considering the politics of the US and it's ban on Cuba......seems politically incorrect of the stars.....but I would imagine it's just research for a movie role, and Cuban officials got paid and there were most likely strict sanctions against what would be shared anyways.
Doesn't really bother me one way or the other.
