Default Flying games for PC

Hi Gamers,
I got a Flight Control System and Flight Simulator X for my birthday from my wife. Always wanted something like this. I like the Flight simulator a lot but I am yearning to blow things up so I was wondering if anyone knows of any good flight combat games that would take advantage of the features of this thing.

This is what I got

Other than the old Falcon 4, there really haven't been any awesome flight sims for years...

Lock On:Modern Combat was pretty cool, but if you wait a couple of months there's a new Tom Clancy game coming out called HAWX, which is flight sim based and looks incredible.

Hawx is definitely a flight combat game. The way it basically works, from what I've seen, is a dual mode - you swap between a first-person standard action-flight sim thing and a third-person mode, depending on whether you have the computer help on or off. You get a load of aids with computer stuff on, but can push things harder if you turn it off.

I'm certainly interested in how it'll play. It's a step removed from a trad combat-sim.

(I also suspect it won't use the hardware you've got well. You'll be looking for something a little more trad. I'd suggest Air Rivals, the free air combat MMO, except it doesn't let you use anything other than mouse and a certain set of keys)

The PC Combat Flight Sim genre's quiet at the moment, mores the pity.

There appears to not have been much development in any combat flight sims in recent years, at least ones that are not Arcade style.

One of my all time favourites is this. A couple of years ago some people released a less bugged and hugely updated version of it called BoB 2: Wings of Victory. Unfortunately last I tried it I couldn't get it to work well with my graphics card and drivers.

I hope you can find a good game. That equipment looks awesome!

It seems like companies are stepping back from PC games in general and focusing more on the game consoles. I play Madden on my PC and there will not be a PC version for the 2009 edition.

And since I really don't play many other games, I refuse to shell out the $$ for a console.

We Have a PS3 just bought it because its a cheaper upgradeable bluray) and a Wii but there are things about PC games that are better. If this keeps up I'll probably end up buying a MAC.

...I agree with ya'll. My best friend and I have been playing all the Medal of Honor and Call of Duty WW2 games for several years now. We tried the console based for a while but went back to the pc based because the quality of play is just better to us.

( btw...I'd love to find a really good pc based air combat simulator - also a naval battle one....
that might be a TALL order though )

As I said try Lock On Modern Air Combat, it's about 3-4 years old but really needed a high end PC back then to get the most out of it, nowadays it should run just fine and look awesome

I've been looking around for Lock on and can't seem to find it anywhere (at least in canada.) I did end up buying Balzing Angels 2 to play with until HAWX Comes out.

http://www.blazingangels2.com

Haven't played it yet but I'll let you know if its any good.
