Posing Seminar
Hello there!
I have found a posing seminar, it just happens to be AFTER the competition I wanted to go in :P
Do you think posing seminars are beneficial or could you get the same thing out of getting a experienced personal trainer to show you or practicing yourself?
Lots o love

Anyone can use a little help with their posing. So if you can go to a posing seminar (if it's for free) then definitely go check it out.
I didn't have anyone teach me how to pose for my first bodybuilding competition, so I had to look around and research how to pose correctly, make transitions, ect. So as you can imagine, my posing wasn't very crisp. But I learned a lot while watching my fellow competitors do their poses, so I will definitely do better in my second competition. So if the opportunity is there, definitely check out the posing seminar to learn something new.
However, the very best way to perfect your posing is to practice, practice, and practice. One thing you should already be doing is posing in front of your mirror. However, it also helps if you have a friend video tape you while you pose. Because when you're on stage, you won't have a mirror to see yourself in.
Again: practice, practice, and practice. The more competitions you sign up for, the better you will become. Read my signature below.

hmmm, well i do pose in front of the mirror... like... everytime im in front of one :P :P but i still just find it sooo difficult to flex my back! i havent been able to yet and i cant figure it out!
I've watched videos and everyone seems to bring their shoulder blades together and then when the pull them apart theres like a million bumps in there. I cant make it do that i have no idea how its SO frustrating!
The only problem with this posing seminar is that its after the May comp for the Sept comp. And I really wanna go in the MAy one, you know, you set yourself a goal you should stick to it
LOTS OF COMPS!
Jeebus i thought preparing for one was hard enough!
hmmmm...
Do you think perhaps because my back isnt my strongest point, i need more muscle on it before i can flex it? All the ladies seem to have back galore, and its not like much fat goes on there

I am sure someone with experience can coacch you on "mental techniques" for posing-- I am sure there are all sorts of psychological tricks involved in focusing and engaging muscle groups. You have probably found a few of your own already. There are a lot of muscles in the back... I am sure there is a "system" for flexing them! (Maybe imagine the you are doing a lat pulldown and a row at the same time )
You are determined enough that I am sure you will find all of your answers!

Smiling while posing... good point! Psychologial tricks... GAH, theres so much too it!
so are you sure its not just that my backs not big enough? I can make those big things move, you know those upper lat thingies? And i can make them come forward (not that you're sposed to do that in figure) but hooooowwww do i make the little upper back triangle thingy work? BUMPS!!! GODDAMIT!!
ill keep practicing

The best way to get in touch with a muscle is when it's sore. Go to the gym and really overdo a back workout. Do rows, pulldowns, pullups, pullovers, some shrugs. Concentrate on how the muscles feel when you are contracting. Wait two days till you are really sore and flex. Should do the trick.

You have to have someone help you with your posing. Women's posing is less straightforward than men's. An experienced competitor can help/correct you in minutes. You would need many hours of your own efforts to achieve the same. And you would still have to have access to competition DVDs to study the posing.
Mirror posing is not enough, you should videotape your self and evaluate later. Minimize mirror posing because at the time of the comp you don't have them.
Heavy practice will embed the poses to your nervous system and brain so that you can hit the poses without optical ques from mirrors
You should take the seminar. Bulding your body for months and failling to show it bc of little posing practice is counterproductive and a waste of time.
Good luck!

Posing training is essential, but if you go with a trainer, make sure it is one who has trained competitors before and get their resume, the competitors placings etc or a trainer who competes and does well themselves.
Seminars are cheaper.
