Question about posting pictures

I do apologize if this is on some blatantly obvious part of this site and has been answered many times.

But how does one post a photo in a thread?

I see that for some I have to post a url link.

But what do I need to do if there is a photo on my hard drive I wish to post?

You need a certain number of posts before you can post pictures (see forum rules)
other than that, you put your picture on a public picture site and link it here. (see forum rules)
