Larissa Reis - frustrated about Arnold 2009
This was posted by Larissa today and she is obviously not happy about being snubbed by the Arnold Classic Invite committee -
Friday, January 09, 2009
"Why wasn't I invited to the Arnold Classic???
Recently I found out that I won’t be competing in the Arnold Classic this year. I was so excited to get ready to train and prepare for the Arnold Classic but I wasn't invited. I never received any information or reasons why I wasn’t invited, so I’m not sure what to think.
I'm not sure about the rules on how to get invited to the Arnold... It's an international show and I wonder why there aren't more girls invited from other countries. 90% of the girls who compete are Americans.
Can someone help and explain this to me? I honestly would just like to understand the rules.
I will still be at the Arnold Classic, even if I'm not competing. I have received a lot of emails from people asking me about the Arnold Classic, so I am posting this blog to let everyone know about my situation.
I wanted to be able to share with everyone the reason that I won't be competing.
If someone can tell me how the rules work more clearly, I would really appreciate it.
Xoxo
Larissa"

I would have invited her for sure! *g*
No kidding - she really sounds upset and sad about that, and that for a reason in my opinion. She is very active, and - guess not only for me - one of the hawtest ifbb-pro's that I have seen.
__ keep up your good work, larissa!__

FigureRX and Bodybuilding Weekly posted this in response to Larissa's comment...
a link to questions regarding last years selections--
Bodybuilding Weekly Forums • View topic - Article - Selections for Arnold / Figure International
Actually this only supports Larissa's frustration even more... she would be one of the biggest draws imho. Making the fact she was left out even more dumbfounding.
To further illustrate her frustration here is the international make-up of 4 of the last 5 Arnold Classic figure invite lists-

Aww... they got a really bad argumentation... if you watch the invitations for 08, you really can't understand how they chose. To bad.
What I didn't know before: There're only bout 16 competitors over all?!?! So... this is considered as a "best of", or how do you see that in the u.s.?

Received this from Sioux of Sioux Country regarding Larissa's argument-
"Only 19 women were invited to compete at the Ms Figure International. Nearly all the women invited won shows or have placed very high in contests. Larissa's highest placing was 10th.
The odds are not good for someone who has not won a show or placed very high to get invited."
Still the lack of international competitors is alarming-

yeah I know another gal who is trying to qualify........its not so much an invite, you have to place top 3 at certain pro show like the all stars or the spain show in order to get qualified for invite to the arnys pros. I also know when you compete in europe the rules can vary, thongs I think are okay out there for example but also........you can see much more um.......politics in europe as they like to pick their own, kinda like the east coast out here......west coast is not so bad about that........
Anyway, if she did not place high enough and was not happy with her placing that is different but you do have to place/qualify top 3 for those few pro shows to get there.
I know a gal who got 4th at the all stars.......missed it by one.....now that is frustration.
