Default The good and the bad: Protein bar

Damn Intarwebz! Tons of porn and 'make your own bomb' recipes, but I can never find anything else. GAH!!

... Anyway...

I need a new kind of protein bar. However, I'm not looking for a particular brand. I just want to know what I should be looking for in a protein bar: how much carbs, fats and protein, how much calories, that kind of thing. I looked around and while there's plenty on shakes, I didn't find much on bars.

So... anybody got any infos for lil' ol' me?

Thanks.

The ideal c/f/p ratios are going to vary according to your needs. Immediately post workout, you need 8g of fast (usually whey) protein, and 24g simple carbs (you could have more so long as you maintain the 3:1 ratio, but it's really not worth it, unless you're trying to gain mass at all costs). If you're using them as part of one of those crazy Atkins-style diets, then you're looking for a zero carb bar, and the list goes on and on.

I used to be a bar fan, but stopped eating them when I realized that the self-stable fats and preservatives were working against my ideal diet (though it shouldn't really stop you). I loved the convenience, but I've switched to eating more cold chicken or beef jerky.

Can't give you any other advice.

EDIT: My 600th post. Guess that super-secret, cool #600 that I'd been planning is going to have to wait for 99 more posts!

Protein bars, yucckkk bad experience.

I remember one time I had a lunch detention in the 10th grade.
So I figured to make things easier I'd just grab a protein bar from
the grocery store and a bottle of chocolate milk.. damn, the wrapper
makes it look so delicious with mounds of fudge, icecream and brownies.
I bit into it and I thought the teacher had slipped a peice of chalk into my hands.

Lol. I stay away from them now.
