Jamie Oliver the guy in the film is a hero man, he is single handedly changing the mind set of of the british government when it comes to school dinners. When you think about it, the governments attitude is disgusting when it comes to what they allow schools to feed our kids, 'chicken' nuggets turkey twizzlers and chips every day its no wonder the kids are fat these days. Its plain and simply grose negligence by the government AND parents if they had allowed this to continue, gladly the nation is beginning to change and a lot more 'healthier meals' are being incorporated into school dinners. But now the healthier meals are available the kids aer revolting against the idea because there addicted to burgers and pizzas. No one stands for children being abused or neglected so why is this any different, it may not seem as serious but when these kids grow up severely overweight and have hard conditions they may just die before there parents do.

I agree mooshue.

Lately I've been buying more organic and natural foods. It's a little more expensive than 'regular' groceries, but you can't put a price on health. It's pretty distgusting what we put into our bodies sometimes

Here in the states we call it "mechanically separated meat." And he left out the part where the ground bone, organ, feather, skin, and meats are warmed into a super-heated slurry and passed through a series of finer and finer sieves to remove any un-ground bone or feather fragments.

I went organic a few years ago: it does cost more (alot more, if you like beef), but it's so worth it.

This may seem a bit counterproductive for diets, but does anybody know if it's possible to take ground chicken, form it into lumps, roll them in something like panko and fry them in a semi-healthy oil for a zero-filler nugget?

I was asking because I was thinking of making something like that for my son, but apparently I've upset your delicate sensiblities with my innocent question. Thanks for the elitist attitude, and big ups to the guy who thanked him, too; you're both class acts.

Why don't you just feed your picky child wholesome, nourishing, healthy food? If you must use ground chicken, cook up some ground up chicken as a burger, throw it on a whole wheat bun and bake some fries up. Or substitute turkey. The bottom line is chicken nuggets aren't, and wont be "good" for you or your son.

Anytime you deep fat fry anything, you're asking for trouble. Completely do away with frying.

It seems like you, my friend, are offended and hurt by my aburpt comment to your original question. I did not intend to ridicule you, but it was a elementary question, deserving of a elementary answer.

If I were to ask a similar question, it would be somewhere along the lines of :

"I want to lose my gut before my vacation in 2 weeks. What steroids will do that"?

Anyone with any knowledge of training, diet, supplementation, etc. Would see this question and laugh. Much as I, and it seems others did, at your question about wanting to fry chicken and consider it to be healthy.

I know this may be heart breaking to read this news, but that's the way it is. Sorry to upset your "delicate sensiblities"

Here's my two cents: it may be possible, but I think that you have to have eggs to hold the bread crumbs on.

But falcon's right - I know of no way that frying is healthy. You may make it healthier by using better ingredients, but it still isn't healthy.

My theory: don't let kids eat crap, or healthier substitutes for crap. Teach them to just eat healthy - after wandering around crowds of people this weekend, it seems like a forgotten method.

Thank you sincerely for a reasonable, informative answer, pliny.

I never suggested that frying anything would be healthy, but when my boy is screaming for mcdonalds (thanks to his mother), I was hoping to find some sort of middle ground where I could satisfy his cravings but know that good ingredients were being used. Most fathers will tell you that hungry six year olds aren't the most agreeable audience when you try to explain how McD nuggets contain fatty skin and fillers and sodium and aren't good for you, when all they remember is the playground, sugar-laden ketchup and Shrek dolls.

Let's bury this like gentlemen, with the understanding that the EF forums are at their best when used for education and meaningful discourse, not bashing and curt dismissals of valid questions.

Buy some chicken tenderloins, dip in milk and eggs whites, roll in coating (bread crumbs, crushed almonds, whatever floats your boat), fry in a little olive oil. Tasty and healthy.

Oh hell yea the Foreman comes in handy. For me I have a tough time getting enough fat in my diet so I make sure I fry at least one of my chicken meals a day in a couple tablespoons of olive oil

I wasn't intending to offend anyone in the first place. Naturally with a large group, some people tend not to agree with others, and that's expected. However I hope you know there has been no bashing on my part. Simply because I didn't put it nicely, doesn't mean I bashed you.
