help- how many calories in this?
yummy yummy meal tonight, courtesy of my daddy, but how the heck do I count this up?
CalorieKing is letting me down on this one. any guesses welcome!
2 very small slices of italian bread dipped in the EVOO/pesto
caesar salad (lettuce, caesar dressing, parmesan grated, and maybe 4 croutons)
grilled/seasoned gulf grouper with mediterranean sauce (evoo+herbs, capers)
a small side (maybe 1/4 cup?) each of sweet corn and garlic whipped potatoes
I am fearful of what the result may be... I may have screwed up on today's calorie intake by a bunch- was not expecting this surprise meal

I would assume this is probably 800-1200 calories, but im not a dietician so I am not too sure.
If I were you I would just try and take it easy tommorow and perhaps eat a little less to make up for your dinner.
Dont worry about one meal, as long as you stay focused and determined in the long run, its no problem!
Goodluck with your diet!
P.S- When I was on a diet and felt like I was going to crack, I just thought about all the reasons why I started dieting in the first place, and wanted to see if it was worth starting all over again.

Thanks. I was afraid of some ungodly number like that. I only had about 250 cals left to have a small something for dinner... didn't quite make it with this meal ha ha. Well, better luck today.
I'm actually just trying to keep a calorie journal- haven't officially made a goal and changes yet, I just really wanted to see my starting point. It really isn't as bad as I expected, and I've been doing this for about a week now. Of course, keeping the journal, even though I'm not supposed to be cutting back yet, I find myself making different choices to make my numbers look better at the end of the day! (I am so competitive, I cannot stand seeing myself in a less than ideal light!)

Caesar Salad 93.7
Salad dressing, caesar dressing, regular 1 tbsp 77.6
Bread, italian 2 slice, small (3-1/4" x 2-1/2" x 1/2") 54.2
Cheese, parmesan, grated 1 oz 122.2
Croutons, plain 0.5 1/2 oz 28.9
Fish, grouper, mixed species, cooked, dry heat 1 fillet 238.4
Corn, yellow 0.25 cup 151.5
Potatoes 0.25 cup 39.3
Oil, olive, salad or cooking 1 tablespoon 119.3
the total is about 925 kcal.
If you had 2 tbsp of oil it would be 120 kcal more.
The pesto might be about 100 kcal per tbsp.
Next time, skip the prepared sides, dressings, cheese, sauces, and croutons. Ask them to bring you a bottle of olive oil to the table so that you can control the portions and also ask for lemon or lime slices for seasoning.
A tsp of olive oil is enough to impart a good taste. I use that for about 12 cups of salad along with unlimited vinegar and lots of pepper.

Thanks fiona This was a very nice, very elegant, very fancy local gourmet restaurant- so substitutions were not appropriate in this instance, but you're right- I usually do skip on most "extras." Most of those numbers look pretty accurate... not sure if the salad was quite that much, as it was just lettuce (iceburg) tossed in the dressing (which you accounted for) with a light sprinkling of fresh parmesan. The pesto was made of just herbs mostly (the kind where they put a small bit of herbs on the plate and pour EVOO over it to make a dip for bread) with, I think, a bit of cruched pine nuts.
Thanks for the breakdown
even if it was naughty calorie wise, I haven't had a meal that good in ages!!
