A Few nutrition questions
Hi,
My wife and I are starting to get more serious about losing our collective weight. Although not overweight we are bigger than we want to be. We're basically able to stay right around 195ish (6'1 me, 5'8 her). I've tried searching online to answer all my questions but there comes a time when you just have to start asking :-)
This might be an ever growing list because I forgot my exercise journal at work today. Theres lots of knowledge out there and we're basically noobs.
We have moved our gym time from after work to early in the moring. It's supposed to be better when trying to lose weight and hit that 'caloric deficit' being you're body has basically been starved over the past 8 hrs while sleeping (fact or myth?). We eat breakfast after, after one day it went pretty good but is there something good for some fast carbs to get us going in the morning?
Does anyone have any suggestions for something healthy before bed? We have 5 meals a day, 7am, 10am, 12:30-1ish, 3-3:30ish, 6:30 dinner. Bed at 10 to get up for the gym early, but whats best for a 9pm snack? carrots + dip.
I think thats it for now, thanks for an help...

You could take a protein shake before you go to bed, some brand actually taste pretty good!
Then of course there are always fruits and veggies (but I find they are boring after awhile).
You can make your own popcorn with an airpopper, or eat something small like "jello" or applsauce.
Whatever you choose to eat, make sure to switch it up every so often, or you'll find yourself bored and more likely to go on a binge.
Congrats on your new lifestyle habits!

Thanks for the ideas ColdFX. Never actually thought of jello, applesauce, or popcorn but I like..
We've been hitting the gym 4-5 days a week at night for a few months now it's just time to knock the weight loss up a notch. I had her doing some weights with me but she got a job teaching kindergarten and injured her back bending over so much (aggravated disk) so it's straight cardio for another few weeks according to the chrio. I go with some guys at work to lift the heavy stuff in the afternoon... It's great I've been able to build muscle up yet lose fat over the past few months, i can almost slide all my shorts/pants off without unbuckling them, OMG that feels so good.

Oatmeal has a lot of complex carbohydrates and soluble fiber for removing cholestoral (did I spell that right?) and providing energy. Pancakes is another good one for carbs. I actually see a significant improvement in the distance and speed I can run if I have pancakes for breakfast--the only food I know of that does that. Also, for bedtime, I like to have a couple of glasses of red wine (the cheap stuff). It relaxes me, helps me sleep and provides some great antioxidants--I heard they help your body digest and process food. I feel healthier and lighter in the morning after I have a couple of glasses of wine the previous night.

Great going on your journey! stick with protein pre bed, grilled chicken, dry cottage cheese, protein drink.
