I need some simple Oatmeal recipes
I just set my goal to lose 130lbs and will start a thread about that in a little bit, but in the mean time I could really use some simple oatmeal recipes.
I have decided to make oatmeal a staple of my breakfasts. I AM NOT a very good cook to boot. I need some very simple recipes for oatmeal that don't require alot of the complex ingredients and blends that I have seen on this forum. If anybody knows any that involves simple blends of spices or fruit and not complex mixtures and cooking times, that would be awesome. Thank You

bring water to boil..........stir in oatmeal, cook 10 min, let simmer, add fruit to taste, serve
I'm sure you can find some better recipes in the nutrition form.

I usually add a little vanilla protein powder and shaved almonds to my oatmeal. It think it tastes pretty good. You could always just add a little splenda to your oatmeal.

Here is what I have for breakfast every morning, it is very easy (good for a lazy person like me) and quick. Take 1 cup quick oats (get the cheap generic brand at your super market), add 1 cup skim milk, mix, microwave for 90 seconds. You can add any flavor you want, I eat mine plain because I like it that way and I enjoy the taste. This is very cheap, a large package of quick oats costs about $4 and makes ~ 30 servings, and is very easy. If you do this you can have your breakfast in 2 minutes, just have to clean 1 cup + 1 bowl and you can be out the door in no time.

Try making a batch of oatmeal with less water than required so it's thick, fruit and spices added as you see fit, spray or lightly oil a baking pan. Pour the oats in then smooth the oats out and cover them with plastic wrap. Place another pan on top and add something heavy like canned fruit or veggies, this will press the oats tight. Put them in the fridge for a couple of hours.
Now you can cut them into squares and pop them out. You now have oatmeal squares and for those who need a "solid" style breakfast and don't like the poridge consistency, you can fry them in a pan with lo or no cal spray. the edges get brown and crispy. top them as you wish or use them as a starch (pancake or potato) substitute for your breakfast...

Dude, how hard is it to drop a 1/4 cup of oatmeal with 1 cup of water, raisins and nuts and cinnamon, and splenda on a microwave oven for 3 minutes? Then add a teaspoon of peanut butter and 8oz of whole milk yoghurt (real yoghurt, not the retarded low-fat variety.
Sorry for the sarcasm, I couldn't help it. Anyways, the recipe just described is my favorite way of making oatmeal. Adding peanut butter and yoghurt makes sures it has decent amounts of protein and healthy fats (a must at the beginning of the day.)

This is a good choice. However, I would like to know exactly why you made this decision. That is, what do you expect to get from making this change, and what do you think are the benefits of using oatmeal?
The reason I ask is because a lot of people make a lot of assumptions on nutrition, turning this into a hit-and-miss that sometimes work and sometimes doesn't.
Also, I hope that this is not the only thing you are going to have for breakfast.

I strongly suggest you change that and start learning how to cook well, healthy and with variety. Otherwise you are going to fail on the long run.
It's great that you are setting yourself to lose 130lbs (and I hope that your approach not only includes a diet change, but an exercise program suitable to your current physical conditions if any.)
However, any sucessful change starts by acquiring knowledge and control on what you eat. This includes how to cook healthy and with enough variety to make it stick for life, or at least have a good grasp of what makes a dish healthy or unhealthy.
I stronly suggest you read this when you get a chance (if you haven't done it already):
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Nutritional Programs by Dr. John M Berardi, Ph.D.
Good luck.

I got this off another boards contest prep recipies, i made it this weekend, was awesome. Came out much like french toast, but sweet and needed nothing with it. I didnt have an apple handy, so i tossed in a cup of natural unsweetened cinnamon applesauce and it worked great.
OATMEAL PANCAKES
¾ cup Quaker quick oats or old-fashioned oatmeal
4 egg whites
1/2 apple, diced
1 scoop protein powder
1 Tsp. Cinnamon
Yield: 1 large pancake
Serving Size: 1 pancake
Calories: 423
Protein: 39.5 g
Carbs: 53.5 g.
Fat: 6 g.
Put all ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Stir until the mixture has a semi-liquid pancake-batter-like consistency.
Spray some non-stick spray on a frying pan and pour the mixture into the pan.
Cook on medium heat. When one side is lightly browned and solid enough to flip, turn the pancake over with a spatula and cook the other side until lightly browned and firm.

If you're going to microwave "real" oatmeal, like Quaker Old Fashioned (as post 14 suggests), make sure to use a bowl with a broad base. Oatmeal will overheat and spill over the sides of a regular cereal bowl.
