World Gym
Has anyone been a member of World Gym? I was a member for about 3 years, and I loved it. It had a small-gym atmosphere, but it met most of my workout needs. There were some incredible workout monsters that were motivating to workout with.
Things were great until they decided to remodel. They would close the gym without posting any notice, sometimes for days at a time. During their renovation, they were closed for 3 weeks straight and still charged me for an entire month's membership. When I talked to the manager about it, he said that I could have gone to another World Gym (the next closest one is 45 minutes away).
When I cancelled my membership, they charged me for an additional month before they stopped withdrawing from my account.
Needless to say, I was not happy.

World Gyms are independently owned franchises. Depending on the particular owner/location/staff your mileage may vary. I workout and teach Pilates classes at a fairly new World Gym in Atlanta, and it is a very nice gym and seems to be professionally run... I have worked for corporate entities such as Crunch and LA Fitness before, and let me tell you neither one of those companies can figure out their asses from holes in the ground.

Our World Gym turned into a Planet Fitness a few years ago, then it got completely relocated down the street to a huge facility. The one bad thing, they seemed to move from a weight focus to a cardio, so although there are rows and rows of elypticals and treadmills, the weight pit has been somewhat downgraded. its nice and new and cheap, so here here for a former world gym!

Yes, my workout partner is a trainer at Worlds Gym but like mmtman said above they have now been bought out by Planet Fitness and will be chaning their environment and company policies so get ready for some change. Im not sure of all the exact details but I know my location will be changing the name over in January. Like raijin1 said they are franchise so they will change at different times and be operated differently. Ours will be changing their name to Metro Fitness I found out. Personally I think its a sad day. The World Gym name has been around for a long long time and I dont know if it will come back, owners will have to pay more to carry the name, or what but I hope they come back or stick around in some regard. I heard that a guy got kicked out of a Planet Fitness for grunting too loud! If it gets too bad there I was planning on heading to Gold's since more are popping up in Columbus but I did hear a rumor they may be being bought out too, who knows if its a rumor or not. I may have to be going to Power Shack if my gym changes too much!

Worlds Gym
I was a member for 4 yrs. and enjoyed working out there. I especially liked the owners, who treated everybody like long time freinds. I had a motorcycle accident and couldn't workout for about 3mo. they let me freeze my membership untill I was ready to come back and start working out again. They did it for anyone who couldn't workout and needed time from the gym.
A big thumbs up,Worlds Gym.
