Default Gold's Gym

Any others out there hit up Gold's Gym.

I am currently going to the Ballston Gym in Arlington, VA. Supposedly the second largest one in the US behind the Venice. Nice gym, but with the urban and housing boom really taking off in this area the gym gets way too packed, parking sucks, and it can be nasty to work out.

Find they have good pricing, hardcore heads, occasional pros, etc.

Another Gold's in the Arlington area has a different rep and they are suppose to build a third. (I think there are like 20 gold's in the DC metro area).

Anyway, just surprised no one else mentioned Golds'

I used to go to gold's gym a few years ago. I cant stand waiting to use the free weights. Most of the people there had no clue on how to workout yet they would come up to me warning me of the dangers of doing good mornings or deadlifts. So I left there and worked out at home for a bit, now im at another gym but I wont get into that.

Glad you like your gym, remember train hard and train smart.

Thanks. Yeah, my training has been getting more and more serious.

One of the problems with Gold's is that you have a ton of people there, who know the name, yet aren't serious.

In fact, when I asked someone yesterday for one of the machines, he said he had 3 sets left, but that if I wanted to I could get on it, since "I'm not as dedicated." Its a pain to have people who are just there. I once saw a girl just walk around all day, and then she mentioned to one of the employees who I knew that no one talked to her. haha.

Anyway, there are people there who help inspire you to be better and get bigger, which is good. But it stinks that you have to work through the onesy's and what not.

Other gyms were too expensive or evil (Bally's). So this works out.

I like my gym Milos Sarcev's Koloseum gym...formerly fullerton golds. There's no wait for what you want. You get to see the pros ever so often. On saturdays when they do there photo shoots. I go to the venice golds on the weekend and you pretty much get what you want there too. No waiting in line to use the weights.

DON DIESEL says People REALLY Like Me

i liked golds, but we had every typical "gym character" in the known universe there..

-the big ass super buff dudes walking around like they are badasses with mean mugs

-the "know it all" mofo who claims some unknown bodybuilding title from 1974, and he is usually wrong

-the "ladies man" who never works out really just acts like hes doing some shit, then checks out the ladies always trying to help the spot or give them pointers trying to get a number

-the "stair stepper hog" who never gets off the fuckin cardio equipment, and spends ridiculous amounts of time like 4-5 hours doing cardio...got damn man!!!

-the "i need help helpless dame" she always is looking for some kinda help acting like she cant figure shit out, until mr "ladies man" runs over, they usually know each other they been there so long, almost like a dual cancellation...but yeah shes there too

-the "i think im big as fuck" dude who really not that big but walks around like he is jay cutler , arnold, or johnnie jackson trying to get everyone to look at him

-the "i want to look cool so i'll lift a megazillion pounds" dude who cant do shit properly, yells for reps all over the place so people will look at him and struggles to do the rep knowing got damn well the shit is too heavy for him

-the "i cant lower the weight even if its too heavy" dude, he is just like "i want to look cool dude" but he is worse, even when the weight is massive and too much and he knmows it he'll just adjust his reps to 1, maybe 2 so he wont look like an idiot lowering the weights and take a blow to his strength ego...

hahahaha, and a bunch more but golds was cool, i would still be there if not for the big brand new rec center that shits on 98% of the "expensive places" for 110.00 a year..

That's funny DonDiesel! I totoally agree with you on that one. But the good thing about Milos Gym is that there isn't too many people that work out there at one time so there isn't too many guys that I see walking around sticking their chest out thinking there all bad ass but we have our share, that's for sure. But even at the 24hr fitness's have there share and they're worse! lol Since they don't have any real bodybuilders working out there you have the gym rats that think they're all billybadass when they have no shape, form, or asthetics to them at all. Hey Diesel, where do you live to be so luck to only pay $110 a year? Bro, you are freakin' lucky!

haha, yeah, there are all those types at my gold's too.

not bad though, especialyl the roids stuff, haven't seen that.

this area has a lot of young people in it who are worried about their apperance, so you can find some genuine people there.

however you can also find the newbys who have no clue what they are doing.

oh well, as long as i get my pump and what not, i'm all good.

i go to gold's here in suburban st. paul, mn. it's not so bad with all the "stereotype" kinds of peeps that diesel mentioned. most are just normal people trying to get into/stay in shape. there are a couple nice looking ladies, but 90% of them seem to be bored trophy housewives. i go in the morning, so it's never too crowded, and when i do go after work, i almost never have to wait for a machine. the pool could be bigger, and i don't really know if the trainers know what the fuck they're doing (not to be mean but one of them is a total fat ass), but other than that it provides me with what i need. end of story.

I really don't look into the whole stereotypical Golds atmosphere. I just go in, train hard and go home. I'm not there to bull$hit! Yes, I do have the roid monkeys in my gym, and there yelling across the gym lifting 50lbs. (lol) but I don't pay attention to that. I like my gold's because there's no wait for what you want like at 24hr fitness everythings taking and when you ask them how many sets they got left, they're like 20 left or they don't know or they don't speak english( due to the 24hr is in little saigon). I don't care about the pool and basketball thing. We go to the gym to train and train hard to grow and change our bodies to make ourselves look the best we can be! Gold's ain't that bad. Even when I go to Venice or Huntington Beach to train, same thing In and out. Go big or go home.

I go to Gold's because there is one close to work, and one close to home, so I have flexibility in my workouts. Also, it's not usually as crowded as some other places. We do get our fill of muscleheads, as aolt of the pros are moving to Vegas. We also get to see stars trying to show off. But I just get done what I need to get done, and that's it.

The Largest Golds is in Orem, Utah. As big if not bigger than a Sam's Club!

The gym I go to is just a local place... they have bought into a package with a larger club where gyms can pay a membership in and then members can participate at any gym that has bought in. So basically, 21st Century is the name of the place, but there are 100's in the US that I can participate at. Sadly there wasn't one anywhere around Myrtle Beach S.C., so I bought a membership at Gold's there just for a week, and I thought the place was real nice. All the equipment, perfect size, and suprisingly not overpacked. I like it a lot, and the price was good!
