all my friends are members at Lifetime in Centreville. I went there a couple times, under the free guest passes my friends had, to play basketball and lift weights, and it was a nice gym, but its just too damn far from where I live, McLean, Virginia, like a 30-40 minute drive, to realistically workout there regularly.
so I joined the local Sport and Health Club in the Tysons Corner area. although my friends pay less per month, they still had to pay a big activation fee. I joined at the end of the month so the manager gave me big discounts, no activation fee, student discounts, and a multiclub pass. but its still alot, $89 a month. didn't think it was expensive, until reading the posts here about paying about that much for 3 months worth.
but anyways i really like Sport and Health and could honestly say the facility is much nicer than Lifetime, an indoor track, cleaner facilities, whirlpool, and private shower stalls complete with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, but in terms of getting the job done, I guess they are both equal, but the indoor running track is much better than running on treadmills in my opinion. but for the price, over 100 a month for regular members who aren't students, it does cost alot. luckily since I'm not paying for it, my parents do, I don't really worry about the costs, and going to any other gym just doesn't really compare, because Sport and health Club spoiled me

you might say, paying the extra $20 for me a month is for the amenities, but whats another $20 a month, less than a dollar a day.
an interesting comment I read in another thread was about the signups at the basketball courts at Lifetime. the couple times I went there, no one followed them, and it was pickup rules. but at Sport and Health, they follow the signup rule. I like the signup rule, because its fair. Anyone who signs up gets to play when it is their turn, and if there are people waiting on the list, the games have to be played to 11. if you have a problem with getting bad players on your team, then go there with friends, put yourself and your friends on one team on the list. complaints about having bad players that make you wait a long time to get into the next game is pretty sad. and one thing I noticed, was that the teams with the best players on it doesn't always win, the ones with good role players and play as a team usually win. but yes, I digress.
