New two mile goal
I swam 2250 meters thursday and what a great workout. I was circling with my friends who are much faster than I. The pressure made me have one of the best swims so far. I'm signing up for my first 1/2 ironman this year. My goal is to do my first full ironman in 2007.

Nice job whatabetty! Those long distance swim sessions in a pool can be brutal! Good luck with the triathlon goals!

I guess it would be to keep the two miles for awhile so I'll be ready for open water, yikes!

No need to worry! I found my first open water mile to be better than swimming laps. Just don't get caught up in the elbowing that goes on to start the race and you'll be fine. I let the crazies go, walked into the water and got into my pace. I think you'll be suprised.
Congrats on the improvement.

keep it up and dont stop. Every time I get to 2 miles+ "life gets in the way" and bam back at square one! Due to work and wife in school no pool is open when I can go and so have not even taken a strok in months!!!
Lucky you keep going.
I find myself biking from 11pm to 1 am and running at other crazy times. You got to do what you got to do!

Whatabetty, it's been a while since you started this thread, so your training may be beyond these comments. It's a huge accomplishment to get to that 2 mile mark. I've been doing 2 miles on Mondays and 1 mile on Wednesdays for quite a while. That was enough to get me ready for a half iron. I used to do 2-1-1 on M-W-F, but like eljamis says, it's hard to find enough time in the week to do all the training you would like to do. You'll want to increase your swim mileage when you train for a full iron. Until then, if you have extra hours for training, I would recommend that you keep 2 miles as your long swim, swim 1 or 2 other days with an emphasis on speed and sprinting and add cross training, like weights, yoga or a core class. And you can always increase your bike and run mileage. If you do the math, you'll come to the conclusion, as many of us have, that the best place to spend the extra minutes of training time is on the bike.
Triathlete magazine has a lot of training guides you may find useful. I also like the tri-related e-mails from Active.com. If you haven't discovered Total Immersion for your swim skills, look it up on line. It's the single best resource to improve your long distance swim skills. I've taken one of their classes and read a lot of Terry Laughlin's articles. His method works.
