I am thinking about trying,I said trying or running some kind of distance race ,I think we have a 6 -11 miler in our local part, distances depend on group, beginner, medium etc,has anybody competed
in any?I AM NOT LOOKING TO WIN BECAUSE i WEIGH SO MUCH,but getting down to 220 and not
making a fool outta myself would be nice! The race would be this early summer in 2010 so it would give me
time to hit the gym and get in some distance running outside as long as the weather is permitable.

I do a lot of 5k's during the non-winter months, it's only 3.1 miles so the distance is easy to train for (I'm also 220+, so doing a lot of miles can be tough on the joints). I'll do a 10k every now and then, but I rarely do any runs to prepare for it, so I always end up bored and in pain on that distance.
