Anyone here fight?
I was wondering if anyone on this forum likes to/has competed. I don't, but everyone I train with in MMA focuses solely on competion. Post stories if you've got them.

I plan on starting MMA training and an MMA career here shortly, I am currently 170 lbs state champion in both point and free sparring in michigan TKD and am going to a boxing match at Kekti Entertainment Complex in Auburn Hills on the 16th. Slowly but surely I am going to move into MMA, I really want to start taking real jui-jitsu classes as I love the art, currently I learn online from Gene Simco's training website, it's like $9.99 a month or something, good deal tho I have learned a lot.

The Auburn Hills fight is on the 19th my bad, I am fighting a Willie Yu-Lonzo who has a record of 1-6 lol, should be a good start anyways, I heard he is strong as hell and has had 4 matches in a WBO oranization so he may have a bad record due to hard fights, I'm pumped as all hell for this tho. If any of you are in the area stop by for sure, the event is "KO Night!" and there will be around 6 fights if anything come to watch the SHW bout, I read on the fight card that there is a 550 pounder fighting, so that should be very interesting to watch. Anyways i will post again after the fight and let ya know how everything went, e-mail me if you need directions to Kekti Complex if yer in the area and wanna watch.
Peace

^ Good luck with that man, hope it all works out. I don't compete either, but I do do sparring, so that helps. I would recommend to anybody that if you've never been in a fight before, and have never sparred, but are doing martial arts of any kind, go do it. Preferably sparring over picking a fight
Things change a whole lot when somebody is actually trying to hit you, and hurt you. I learned never to underestimate your opponent during what was supposed to be a friendly sparring session between me (who has trained in boxing) and my ex-friend (who has 0 experience). He was taking it very seriously and came out trying to really hurt me. He hit a few times, despite training, because I underestimated him. Needless to say, I wised up and pummeled him shortly after. Learned a lot that day.

Back in high school, I cracked a guy in the head with a steel thermos because he stole from me. Does that count?

Until a couple of months ago, I was training in MMA and BJJ (gi). Had a few neck and elbow injuries during practice so I took a break off while seeing a chiro and a doc. Nothing major, but better to take care of it. I should be back to training in August.
I'm about to turn 38, and I don't think I'll compete in MMA, but I do intend to compete in grappling tournaments... if my health and joints allow it There are a lot of people (competitive grapplers or not) who take MMA as a hobby.
Also, a lot of MMA students come from other backgrounds (kickboxing, judo, boxing) and are already a bit exhausted from competitions. So for them it's a hobby to keep themselves active... an active retirement in a way

Thanks for all the good words guys, the fight was incredible, nothing like TKD sparring which I have done all my life. These past months of training and preperation could never have prepared me for my "first" fight, there is nothing like it, I mean my adrenaline has never been so high and I have really never had so much fun. Fighting is incredible and I definetly plan on making it a big part of my life.

Not sure why that comment ended but I'll continue, I won my fight via decision unfortunetly, I was really hoping for a highlight reel KO but I couldn't finish the fight. My opponent Willie Yu-Lonzo was an absolute idiot, he was extremely cocky and thought he was tough shit because of his high level fights (which are all losses), he shoved me at weigh-ins and sais he was going to introduce my karate ass into the boxing world biotch! haha I wanted to knock his ass out more than anything and am kind of dissapointed with the way I won but none the less very excited to start my boxing career as 1-0-0. Anyone who is considering fighting in competition I HIGHLY recomend it, it teaches you a lot about life and totally motivates you everyday in everything, not just working out, it's hard to explain but it's awesome. I dont plan on boxing to many more fight but I'll keep you guys posted, my myspace is in the making which will basically be my promotion site for now, I plan on breaking into MMA real shortly here. Photos from my fight will be on my myspace and so will a short highlight of the night from all the fights. To the guy who asked about training in Michigan I dont know where you live but I train at Lone Wolf Combat in mid michigan, it is decent, it's near Beal City, which part of Michigan do you live in, I have never heard of where you live, anyways hit me back and I can give you some recomendations I have trained all over Michigan.
Peace, Nate

Depends, did he fight back? If there was not even an attempt at a strike from the other side, then I'd have to say no, else your everyday pimp could be considered a pro fighter. =P

Jeez is there no humour left anymore =P dont know much about pimps have no friends yet who are and am not a hooker so not often in contact with them are you
and it was a 'she' actually, she was drunk and throwing her drink over everyone and when she wouldnt get out of my face I decided to end it, not a good idea probably because she was much fitter and muscular than me, but only so much shit you can take right and I ended up with a few bruises, a cut lip and only reason I managed to get a few in myself was because she was drunk and could hardly stand !
