I agree with what wildstang said. If MMA is about your fighting skill, I don't know where people get off making attitude part of the sport. If you're trying to become a sports personality, then some badass Mr. T persona would help, but if your record does its own talking (like GSP), then I respect the quiet man who carries a big stick.

Doesn't really bother me either way, like others have said its your fighting skills that count.
I like a person with character though. As everyone knows I'm a huge kimbo fan! and if anyone has a unique character its him. Also I love Muhammad Ali and hes another person who we'll never be able to forget and I'm sure much of that has to do with his personality.
I'm not a martial artist or anything even though I'd love to get into MMA, but within the next 2 months I'll be getting more into boxing taking it from just screwing around with friends to actual classes at a local gym. I figure I'll do this for as long as possible then explore another form of martial art

gsp is witout a doubt the classiest fighter out there...fighting in the octagon is a sport...u go in their to win...it just so happens that ur object is to beat the opponenent silly n not likin them will ultimatly make u fight better...but it could make u fight worse...listen sum times in sports u do what it takes to win..in soccer i kno that if u score a goal what do u do? u can sit back n defend/control the ball..is this a pretty way to"win" of course not..but at the end of the day if u r the one that has a higher score than the opponent..u win....so in mma u go out there to win the fight..not kill the guy...u do wat it takes within the rules to win...how mnay times have u seen a fighter win 2 of 2 rounds n than in 3rd round take it slow n run awy/ waste time..n just become a "dull fighter" u do what u need to do to win...maybe im goin off topic but my point is gsp realizes its a sport..he competes n fights to win...he trains at so mny different aspects of the game i think he is the most complete fighter out there..the best? maybe not but def pound 4 pound a top 5 guy...i respect gsp the most outta ne fighter because he respects the martial arts training...when he beat hughes few weeks back n won the interim belt..he said thank u but this is not mine..this belongs to matt serra n when he returns i will fight him n try to win the belt for real...he was handed a title shot...won against a bad ass fighter n declined bein named middleweight champion...very classy guy..n the guy who wrote this post on sherdog bout needin to be cocky n arrogant i dont agree wit at all...ur fights determine ur record..ur character determines who u r...id rather never win a fight but be known wit great character than undefeated where everyone hates u...i am a kimbo fan..n he seems to me as a humble guy..the media/promotion companies hype the shit outta him n which u can hardly take it..but KIMBO neva proclaims to be the best, neva talks shit..listen to his interviews n tell me if hes cocky..i dont see him as im the baddest mofo around..i c him as not bein afraid of ne1..givin props where props r due..but bein confident witout a sense of arrogance...kimbo 4 lyfe 305 all day everyday!

Well i guess he pretty much sums it up --- a competitive sport, that is way different from a "mutual fight" where each opponent "spar" and not "fight" as a well of gauging their skills and showing mutual respect, hence the chinese terms 以武会友. You dun suppose we bow to each other b4 a judo match (the 'rei') or cross our fist and palms (with the junior fists lower then the seniors') before a spar?
But if it is a sport and a professional one at that, thats totally different. Money and fame would be the priority then.

Every sport has its "trash talkers" and for the most part they are the ones most "hated" by the true fans of the sport. I'm for the one who goes out onto any athletic field, court, course, ring, cage, etc. and performs to the best of his ability and lets his accomplishments/actions speak for him.
I always loved the quotes "Act like you've been there before." & "Don't snow me just show me."

But not every guy is Ali... If you dish it out and take it, that's one thing. But guys like Diaz, Koschek, and your usual suspects are the first to bitch when they are "disrespected". If your going to be a bad guy, you have to expect to be treated as such. Case in point, Diaz lost his EXC--or something like that--title recently on account of a cut. He stormed out of the venue, gave everybody the finger... I'd understand being pissed, but that's just plain dishonorable. If it'd been the other way around, he wouldn't have complained about how he won... but he lost and through a temper tantrum. Unfortunately, all of the big ego fighters are like that. It's not honorable, regardless of whether or not it sells tickets. And fact is, the top fighters in the world-- Fedor, Silva, GSP, the list goes on--are the quietest, most polite individuals. The fighters who can respect the sport and their opponents are the fighters who can respect themselves; this ultimately leads to stronger training and discipline. ...My two cents...

Oh, and props to Stallion for the football reference... As long as you're not a Chelsea or Arsenal fan, you're okay with me... Go United and Wolverhampton!

I don't really care for Seria A... too much off-pitch dealing and referee involvement. Nothing ruins a football match like a dive in the 90th minute... but hey, there's a lot of talent playing in Italy. Kaka, Totti, you know the lot... How are they doing, by the way? I thought they were in third, last I checked... Inter is running away with it, no?

Serra's going to kick his butt...? First of all, he definitely didn't. St. Pierre destroyed him. Secondly: no, he definitely didn't. St. Pierre destroyed him. Thirdly: no, he definitely didn't. St. Pierre destroyed him. Serra's a good fighter, but he's doesn't have the attributes to beat St. Pierre. Georges is one of those guys who can't really be beaten by anyone but himself.

i know, I know.......I like gsp too but still thought serra would win, I was so surprised.
I know they will fight again so who knows.
Its like hughs n gsp, hughs was not in that fight, lose or win......
I really wanted hughs n serra to fight and hated that it was gsp, they liked each other until now too............oh well, thats ufc......now I await the forest/jackson fight. I have no idea who to count on for that one.......I would think jackson stronger but forest is crazy.....no pain, like leben....so who knows.

It's like most areas of life, sometimes the sheer confidence shown in silence will swing an outcome. For me, all the noise and bravado can be shut down with the right skill set. I have nothing against the "show" it's what makes it an event, but boy i'd rather be in the alley with a talker than someone with quiet confident controlled anger ...just a thought
